Back in around the late 90's i was taking my daily walk and as i looked in the window of the ducati dealer a mile from my place as i passed and saw my first Hinkley triumph. At that time i had no idea triumph was back ! I figured they collapsed for good in the early 80's and that was that. The bikes were the since discontinued classic triple line, the legend, thunderbird sport, etc. It made me want a new triumph and in '05 i jumped on a speedmaster. But at that point the dealer was no longer a triumph dealer because after the factory fire in hinkley, they just let thier dealership slide and since then have only carried ducati, moto guzzi, and agusta. Ever since i got my speedmaster i have always thought about how crappy my luck is.....i get a speedmaster and that dealer stopped carrying and servicing triumph, and the nearest dealer is 50 miles away. yet just a few years b4 i got my bike i had a dealership a mile from my house !!!
Well, you can probably see where this is going, but i got a letter in the mail the other day announcing they will once again have a triumph dealership/service !!! And they are even opening a new showroom exclusively for the triumph line a couple blocks up the street ! I no longer live there, but i am only 3 miles away still. I walk that far for exercise every day, so if i need service i'm fine with 3 miles. To top it off, they have one of the finest shops in all of motorcycling. A huge staff, all the latest tools and diagnostics in a large clean state of the art shop, and a reputation that speaks for itself. Lately when i need to take my bike in for anything, unless it's something i can wait for i have to ride 50 miles, drop it off, rent a car to get home, then go back within 2 days (or rental cost goes thru the roof if longer....weekend rates ya know) to pick it up. It's a fiasco. But no more of that babyyyyyy!!!!!
On a side note, i was there recently and saw a guzzi called a Griso 8V. Man, i never gave MG a second thought, but that thing looks so sweet ! I'm not one for modern looking bikes, but this one seems to combine modern tech with more classic lines in a way, and it's an upright position, not a sport bike. Really gorgeous in person, and a lot better than in pics. Also sports a very respectable spec sheet as power goes. Just under 500 Lbs with 110 HP and 80 Ft Lbs. I have since heard, and the salesman actually told me the same, that they are very quirky bikes, but if you can get past those they are great. The tag was about $13k. I never thought i'd hear myself say this, but i'd love to have a moto guzzi ! Well, at least if the quirks aren't a dealbreaker for me. And if they weren't, this has now taken the #1 spot on my list for most wanted bike if the Thunderbird didn't exist. (but lord help me, i love the bird like nothing i have ever ridden)
