This has been one of the absolute top pet peeves of mine, so much so that my anger peaks every time to the point i just lose it. Over the years i have had this exact scenario happen over and over. When you want to purchase something often lies are told, exaggerations, or people will tell you what they think you wanna hear even if they have no clue. Examples...once called a car dealer a long ways from me to ask about a used car i saw advertised. I made them an offer they accepted then i said, paraphrasing, but exactly what i told them in whatever words i used back then, i need to be absolutely sure you will sell it to me for the price i offered because i have to drive a long ways. I told them i need yo to assure me 100% because if i drive all that ways and you don't honor this agreement i will make a scene. Long story i get there and "no, we can't do that price". I had a screaming match with the ahole in front of many customers. Another time i did the same with some speakers, drove down to get them and "sorry, the guy you talked to shouldn't have accepted that offer, we can't do that".

Those are just a couple, been thru this kind of BS many times, and the common thread among every one of them is that many many years ago i learned to beat it into thier head that it MUST be exactly the product we discussed, and it must be at the price we discussed, and if i go down there and it's not i WILL make a scene. I become very animated when i tell them this to make it very obvious that they do not want to BS me. I always tell them that because this releases ME from being at fault and makes them the guilty party if things do not go as we agreed, and i do it thinking that it will make them fear lying, exaggerating, or assuring me of anything without being sure.

So, that said, a week or so ago i look all over the internet trying to find a discontinued part for my fridge. I finally find one and the model matches exactly and the picture which is very obviously NOT a stock pic but one they shot themselves is exactly like mine. But instead of just buying it on thier web page o do my normal routine. I call them, i ask them to verify the one i get will be exactly as in thier pic and i link her to the pic. I tell her i know how these things go and i need to to reassure me thats what i'll get. She says yes. You know how much in common a porsche has with garbage truck? Well, thats literally how much the part i received has with the part on thier page. The thermostat part is square with a plastic molded in channel that clips on while the one i have that broke is round with a metal clip. The one i got has 4 wires while the one i need has two, and to top it off the one they sent has TWO pugs, one for each pair of wires while mine has one plug and neither of the plugs on the one they sent is the same type as mine. May as well sent me a can opener.

Now heres why i'm so f**king mad.....they charged me $10 for shipping for the 2 Oz (if that) POS and refuse to refund shipping for THEIR mistake. So with return shipping I'll be out about $13-14. That amount won't mean i don't eat for a couple days, but it's not the money as much as the complete lack of competence and total disregard for a customer who is losing out because THEY made a extremely obvious blunder after I drilled them on the phone about it. And to top it off i'm being passed around and have yet to be able to tale to a supervisor. Big surprise eh?

If anyone has any ideas on how to get payback like posting on forums and such, please let me know. Right now i intend to post about it at as many appliance forums as possible, but the more i can do the better, so any ideas are welcome. I'm on a mission and burning up with hate for these jerks. SOOOOOOOOO tired of this kind of thing i just can't find words. Oh, and if you ever need appliance parts, the place to stay away from is MCappliance.

Well I can fully understand your frustration as this seem the normal way of doing business theses days, all that matters is getting you hooked into a purchase and nothing else. Good old service that we grew up with seems to have vanished with no commitment or accountability. If I were you I would start off by placing a complaint on the BBB Site . Now I don't know if the Hello Peter site works your side but I did see a few complaints on USA companies at times.

How odd. Just today at our weekly bike club coffee gathering we were talking about the exact same thing - no customer service these days and being lied to.
I too think the BBB is the way to go.

UPDATE: I have renewed respsct for the human race ! Well, at least SOME of them. A supervisor at MCappliance has come thru with flying colors, and rightly so. Turns out i wasn't the only one to order that part and get the wrong one. Seems they were sent a order of the wrong part for the supplier. He is looking into it and once the supplier lets him know if it was a mistake and the wrong parts were sent, or if it's no longer made, he'll let me know. Till then he is refunding me the FULL amount including shipping, and i don't even have to send back the one they sent me ! So MCappliance is now on my gold list. Thanks Ray at MCA!BBEER

Now the bad part....if it IS discontinued, and i believe it is because when i found this place it took me forever and i was led to believe they are no longer made before that. So i figured i had found a company with a remaining stock. Therefore while i get a full refund, theres a good chance the i'm screwed with the fridge. It belongs to the landlord and i'm sure as hell not buying a new one but i can't tell her either for fear of a rent increase. So i may have to continue doing what i've been doing for a couple months now....every week or 2 empty the freezer, remove the panel at the back, and spend 30 minutes with a hair dryer melting the frozen over defroster. Not fun, not good, and i pray they still make this part ! If i knew the temp at whick it must trigger for this fridge i could probably use a sub, but i don't. I will ask Ray if he can find out from me if they don't make these anymore and try that i guess.

I figure if it isn't available i will figure out which 2 of the 4 wires on this wrong one is the temperature sensitive switch, IE: defrost thermostat, then cut th wires and splice em to the plug on the old broken one and turn the defrost timer till it click on and see if it works. The potential issues if it does but is the wrong temp rating could be either not allowing the heather to stay on long enough to keep it defrosted or worse stay on too long and start melting things. So i'll have to give it a go and watch it to see.

And yes, i'd do business with them again for sure. But i'd keep Ray's name on file as the guy to talk to should other order issues arise ! It's like any business.....it's only as good as the person you deal with, and all business' have good and bad meaning you can end up with 2 completely different experiences depending on who picks up the phone.

Well this sure sounds more like it and I also find if you can find that one person in a company you start having a new experience all round. Now let hope you can still get the part. I just had to purchase a new fridge not so long ago for the mother in laws apartment off our house. They don't come cheap but then I am the type I would not purchase something that I would not be happy with. So this did end up costing me a bit more than what she may have really needed. Anyway she got a nice new upgraded fridge so she is very happy.

White goods these days are only made to have a short life span... I have a "beer fridge" in the garage that is about 50 years old and I have never had to do a thing with it however the inside refrigerator that is about 5 years old has had 3 thermostats fitted.
Hope you manage to get your's working okay dazco.

i'd have no problem buying a fridge if i owned a house, but i'm renting here and that fridge was part of the deal. Anyways, i should be able to get it working with a substitute, but it may take some time to find one that works and test it and all. Real PITA...

Speaking of houses, if u recall i was looking for the last 5 or 6 years. Well, i finally found one i could afford and was having my cousin who's a RE agent book an appointment after i got approved and we were going to tour it then draw up an offer. It was the perfect house for me with a back yard and deck to die for. Of course before i could do any of that they sold it for $50k more than they were asking.

It's not so much about living in a house opposed to where i am now, but that i don't want to be at the mercey of anyone else. Now I worry the rent will go up, the person i sublet from will move then i will have to, and i don't want to die in a rental. I really would much prefer to pass in my own house where my family would take care of things. All these things eat at me daily but my only option would be a house out in the rural areas where i'd not be able to commute. Houses there are 1/3-1/4 as much. But i don't give up because i can't. Gotta keep trying. The problem is the market is too saturated with buyers so a good deal is almost if not completely impossible. L.A. is one of the worse places in the country to be looking. Because the market is saturated with buyers the prices are higher than anywhere else almost.
