All this week I've had a contractor and a gang of guys putting a new roof on my house. I parked my car around the corner in a vacant spot so they could put a dumpster, materials and equipment in my driveway off the street and out of the way. The only downside to this is I can't get into my garage to get at my bikes so I haven't ridden in well over a week.
My bike club went on our annual fall run today and I had to stay home, sigh!
The roof was finished yesterday, but I also have problem with my veranda roof and that required some extensive renovation and repairs before it could be shingled. There was internal rot with sagging and it had to be fixed first. The joys of owning an old house! But I have no complaints. The old roof lasted 26 years and the main structure hasn't needed any repairs in the 47 years I've lived here.
The veranda roof is repaired and will be shingled on Monday, then it's new gutters all the way around.
With what this is costing me I could have a new Triumph in the garage!!!!

Nope, no worries about it leaking now. I had no leaking, but the shingles were worn and brittle and I was losing some in the wind storms. It's been 26 years since the last new roof so it was time for a new one in this harsh coastal climate.

The intense sun and heat do the same thing to a roof here. Dad had a new roof put on last year. He got 25 years out of the previous one. It had been replaced after a hurricane.

Well, your home is probably your single biggest investment and asset so in the long run it pays to maintain it.
Now that the roof, new rain gutters and veranda repairs are finished I'm looking at all the little things that need to be done, touching up paint, fresh caulking, news screens, etc.
We're going to have a run of good weather this week so I'll be busy working outside.
