Well I am looking at changing my Blackberry and getting a Samsung Galaxy SIII I9300 . So if anyone can tell me more about this phone like is it a good or bad I would appreciate it. The only thing that does worry me it only comes with 150MB data package, I suppose if I do run out I can always top up but 150 really does not sound like much to me :y7:

it's been voted phone and gadget of the year by magazines.

my dad's got one, very good.
I have the Galaxy Note 2, which is just bigger and has a stylus.

think they sold more than 30 million so far.

very popular phone, most stores sell accessories for it.

Just bought my youngest son the SIII and he loves it. My oldest has a year old SII which he thought was the greatest phone ever, that is till he saw his brother's SIII. I don't think you could go wrong with the SIII but then again I'm still using an iPhone 3GS.

Kyle (youngest) has used 315.42 MB this billing period with 4 days to go on his 3GB plan

Alex (oldest) has used used 400.74 MB on his 2GB plan for the same period.

I've used 771.87 MB on my unlimited plan. The unlimited part is why I've never upgraded my phone.

Both boys have a bandwidth alert and shutdown on their phones that they set up to insure they don't exceed their limits, any overage comes out of their pockets.

One of my sons has the s3 as well and he loves it.
It would be my choice if I wanted a larger screen phone.
I cant believe you cant buy that phone with whatever plan you want.

For Work use I have 100mb / month, never use it up.

At home I have 20gb, never use that up either.

So do you have any idea on what you do use on your home phone then

Harry you are able to get what ever package you want but the price changes by a huge amount. Our mobile data cost are high this side. Right now I already have 3 different ISP that I pay for, 2 landlines and one for the Galaxy

These are a few of the data plans available from my phone carrier

The deal I am looking at with the phone per month is already 329.00 ZAR = 45.0999 NZD so you would then need to add the above onto that if I want more data.

Well when I say at home, it's the wifi that's running at home via iBurst.

As soon as I drive in, my phone jumps on the wifi and uses that instead of mobile data (automatic on Android, not sure other platforms).

So at home we have 2 cell phones, 3 laptops, 1 tablet, 1 tv, 1 desktop using the wifi. I really tried hard last month and downloaded a total of 16 gigs. lol
Normally all these devices take up about 4 gig.

On my phone alone, it's probably around 1 gig, as I it for just about everything except CAD/CAM stuff.

Ok let me rather say on your mobile data package for your private phone. I have my Galaxy Tab setup to also connect to my WiFi at home, at the Office and then various Hot Spots around town that allow it

Those MTN prices look high to me Dave, moreso than vodacum.

Have you looked at 8ta at all?

You could always consider porting if your in the middle of a contract.

...

I have 8ta on the Tab but the problem with them is if you only have it 8ta the data covrage is not as wide. You then get the 8ta roaming to MTN but that is about the same price as MTN straight

Here are the Vodacom prices

Wow! 3g is expensive!

I pay 198.00 a month for 20 gigs. Not sure how much the company pays for my 100 meg mobile.

I can't get a decent 3g connection at home, well unless I get an external antenna and booster.
Although if I stand out in the front garden holding the gate in my underpants with my left foot in a bucket of tepid water with a tin foil hat on, I can just get 3g. If the wind blows the right way of course. ANGER

So my data package for work is honestly just for work, emails with attachments (drawings), bit of google maps to find customers, sync for email, twitter, weather, stocks, youtube set to 30 minutes. (No facebook, I'm not a masochist lol)
Whatsapp runs 24/7 too.

Well for me I think I would also be connecting 3G most of the time when I do use it, so what I will do is find out what the actual cost of top-up data would be on that contract and take it from there

Just make sure that you get an app or if the phone you use already has it; a program to limit mobile data.

I've heard of guys on iphones (mostly IOS updates) that went waaaaaaaaaay over their bundle and ended up owing 4-7k. (The download kept failing and reattempting)

The android facebook app was guilty of this too, constantly running updates in the background. Been fixed since mind.

I always set my phones to only do this type of stuff over WiFi but I think this one works when you reach that limit it just stops your internet until you purchase more or the next month roll over

I would just make sure Dave, sometimes they just soft throttle you. Don't want a massive bill at the end of the month.

I had this once with Telkom, back in the old days, circa 1990 - with a 2400 baud modem. Forgot to switch off the auto dialer. (was scanning phone numbers for BBS's)
