Looks like I'm headed to Houston. Parents in their 80's without power. Ike followed a path right over my brother's house, parent's house, and then north across my son's house, then my sister's.

Thanks for the link, Avion. Those photos are awesome! :y115:

Lonzo, please be careful travelling to that area. I am sure it will not be an easy trip, but I understand completely your feeling the need to be there to help your family. I pray that they are all safe and have minimum damage to their property.

Travel safe...and i hope all is well...

Thanks for the well wishes, all. Have talked to all my family members, eveyone is fine. Several of my siblings (I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters) and their families evacuated and haven't seen their homes yet. My parents are without power, limbs and branches down all over. My son the firefighter is working, he took his pregnant wife and his maternal grandmother to the fire station. No power at the fire station, son is using a little 2500 watt generator I gave him years ago to run their 2-way radios, refrigerator, and some fans. Houston is a hot, humid place. I'll leave here in a few minutes, about 11 hours or so driving time.

Ike made it's way up here last night.

There was no rain left but the winds were unreal. Just as the Steelers got their first possession of the football game against Cleveland, all our power went out. My Wife is a Cleveland girl so this is one game we always watch.

Anyhow, it was Coleman lanterns for the rest of the evening and no computer. I lost a couple trees and lots of tree limbs are scattered everywhere.

Heading back home now. Arrived in Houston Sunday morning, a section of I-10 there was under water. Had a great deal of trouble negotiating side streets to get to my folk's house. Lots of trees down, much street flooding. From the Louisiana line all the way to Houston, most of the power is out. Most of Houston itself is without power. Impossible to find gasoline. My son used his credentials (firefighter) to gas up my truck so I could leave today. Got my parents set up with my generator, may be several weeks before they have power back on. Cleaned up their yard, left my chainsaw with one of my brothers so he could do his. My son lost a few large trees. Overall, my family fared pretty well. There are areas where power stations or distribution centers were flooded of otherwise destroyed, those people may not have power restored for over a month. Galveston and other coastal areas were hit the worst.

Lon, thank you for taking the time to update us. It is really great to hear that none of your family suffered no severe damage. Being without electricity for a prolonged time is pretty big damage in itself. We were without power for 17 days in 2004. Fortunately, I had a generator that would power the lights, water pump, refrigerator and a window shaker AC. We could turn off the AC and run either the microwave or the hot water heater. We ate plenty of FEMA's MRE's!!!
