How is the Arrow 2 2 exhaust

I am about to purchase a Bonneville 865. My main concern is the blue tarnish the bike gets on the exhaust over time and and am wondering if it advantageous to change the exhaust over to arrow 2 2, aside from the performance. As this is only my second bike performance is not a priority but more the cosmetic in cse I want to upgrade again in the near future. What other benefits do the arrow 2 2 have? Is the worth the extra AUD2000?
 
Well in my opinion going to the Arrow will make more of the blue tinge you are referring to. Hey it's your money, for me again I love the blue tinge and if it's a titanium Arrow it will also produce the most amazing range of purple. The guy whom wants to take money for that blue tinge is a idiot......but very good if he gets away with it.
You will just have to do lots of polishing to keep them stain free and shiny.
 
If the blue you are asking about is at the header then this is the result of a lean burn condition. If the bike is mapped to the proper fuel/air ratio the blueing will be minimal or not occur at all. The bluer the exhaust header, the leaner the burn.

To answer your question, the Arrow exhaust will not stop the bluing of the header pipes. The headers are single walled pipes and they will blue from a reaction to heat. It is normal. Many bikes have doubled walled headers. The inner walls blue; but you can't see it. Bonnevilles tradionally have single walled headers.

That said, you can greatly reduce the bluing by removing the air induction system. The AI is designed to reduce emissions by pumping air into the exhaust as the exhaust enters the headers. This raises the exhaust gas temp to burn any unburned fuel in the exhaust. If the AI is left on a bike, the headers will blue past the second bend. With the AI removed (a simple procedure), the headers will only blue to the first bend.

Back in the day of the original Bonnevilles, blued headers were a "badge" of honor. This showed that you had really run the bike and had likely broke the ton. The more blue on the headers meant you ride the bike fast. I have owned two modern Bonnevilles and I own a 1968 Trophy (single carbed). All three have blued headers. I removed the AI from both of the modern Bonnevilles.

The Arrow exhaust will give you you a more free flowing exhaust which will increase performance. It will also give you a better sound. There are less expensive third party exhausts that will give you the same results. The Arrows are a bit pricey. I do have an Arrow on my Tiger 800XC and I like it.
 
To avoid or at least minimize the exhaust blueing(I quite like it actually) you need to remove the cause.
There are two things to do:
Remove the air injection system,there are kits available or you can improvise.
Make the fuel/air mixture richer,either bigger main jets or get your dealer to adjust the EFI for you.
 
Hi Kazma welcome to the forum. I have the Staintune mufflers which I prefer the sound over the Arrow 2-2 system. You need to change the mufflers or pipes to get that beautiful twin sound which the Bonnevilles are know for. With the new mufflers as they are free flowing performance you need to remove the AI and if EFI motor change to a custom mapping ( a dealer or with Tune ECU you can download the custom
mapping) to enrichment the fuel air. I would also recommend you install a free flow DNA air filter and remove the air box restrictor in the original air box or change to DNA POD filters. This will give you even more HP and the bike will run more efficiently. If you get a carby's model you need to change the jets in the carby's to richer the mixture in which their is good information on the internet about depending on what modifications you perform.

To clean the bluing of the front pipes if you wish too you can use aluminium foil and vinegar and rub the pipes with it and then use a stainless steel metal polish. Enjoy your hew bike the Bonneville is a great bike to ride looks so damn good!
