How do you check for new threads/post

I have been asked to try and implement a way where people can ignore threads post and so on. Now to do this I need to know how do you check for new threads and post when you come into the forum each time.

If you also have any ideas on what this modification should do post them here

This is what I had in mind

User - Threads
1. Threads - the member must be able to completely ignore a thread so he does not even see it at all (complete ignore)
2. The member must be able to partially ignore a thread. He would not see it in a what's new or any new post or thread search. He would however be able to see it as normal if entering that forum area.

User - Forum Areas
1. Forums - the member must be able to completely ignore a forum area so he does not even see it at all (complete ignore)
2. The member must be able to partially ignore a forum area. So he would be able to see that area if he were browsing forum areas and enter it as normal.

Admin
The admin must be able to exclude certain forum areas form being ignored plus threads in that forum area. I am thinking of forum areas such as announcements and so on.

I just click on 'what's new?' at the top of the page, works for me!

O.K. back on task then. New Posts button is the trick for me......though sometimes i just surf around scanning the date/times of posts in certain sections on the main page then click on the recent ones. Depends on if I am in a hurry or not.

Same here if I'm on the computer. If I'm on the iPhone I use the "Latest" button in Tapatalk.

Just an update we have a coder working on this mod for us and we are looking at about 28 days or so before it will be ready
