At this time of year, it is a tradition to place Christmas wreaths on the graves in US National Cemeteries. There is a manufacturer in the northeastern US who donates wreaths by the truckload for this Christmas wreath laying. The public volunteers to help with this project. The Patriot Guard Riders is one of many organizations who volunteer. This year due to the pandemic, the VA would not allow large gatherings at the cemeteries. Thus a local group of motorcycle riders decided to honor vets in their own way. They chose a Veterans Memorial Park in Leesburg, FL.
I left at 0830 to meet the group at Panera Bread in Sanford for a morning cup of coffee. From there, 8 riders rode to Leesburg where we linked up of five more riders. At Veterans Memorial Park, we made wooden gold stars with the names of veterans in each family who are now deceased. I had gold Stars for my dad, five uncles, and, of course, my son Justin. We Placed these stars in a large Christmas garland that is parft of the park's Christmas decorations.
After a brief ceremony, we all rode to Lake Harris Hideaway (where I have been before with MSTA) for lunch). The Hideaway is a great little restaurant with a lot of outdoor seating located on Lake Harris. It caters to bikers.
After a delicious lunch, six of us took backroads back to home. All together I rode 105 miles/169 kilometers.
