Hey!

I joined the Triumph Talk forum because I’m considering getting a triumph as my second bike (my first is a ‘17 1200GS)

I’m especially interested in the 1200 Scrambler XC, but also am eyeing the Speed Twin and the T120 Bonne.

Love the Triumph motor!!!

Tough call. 1200GS and the Scrambler are kind of redundant, though. I'm partial to the Speed Twin(see sig line). Bonnie needs no convincing.

Happy hunting.

Yes!! This bike would be for my lake house and I would, on occasion, be riding moderate dirt/gravel roads. But I must admit, I really loved the speed twin—so comfortable, flickable and that motor! I have ridden the T120 yet—maybe it’s a happy medium!

And once you go black…

Speed Twin has a noticeably more aggressive ride position than the 120. After about an hour-hour and a 1/2 I need a bit of a break off mine at a rest stop. My hips and knees are bit thrashed from former career choices though.

But if that extra snap is what you’re looking for, Speed Twin is a dominator. Totally worth the aches and cramps.

I was really taken with the speed twin. I actually found the riding position very upright and comfortable (say compared to the Thruxton). Even as comfy as my GS. But I often come upon dirt/gravel—how bad is the speed twin on those surfaces?

It’s pretty much a happy medium between a street and sport position.

I wouldn’t charge through gravel and trails too much. It’s all about the tires, but crossing gravel driveways and shorter roads shouldn’t be an issue.

It’s a street bike. I’d just go easy on the occasional rough surface.

The T120 Bonney with some 90/10 or 80/20 tires would be the ideal bike you describe IMO. Good luck in your search.
That’s what I’m hoping for. I was thinking something like Conti TKC70’s on the T120. That black T120 is just about a perfect looking motorcycle IMO. But I wish it had the fuel mapping and the front brakes of the speed twin (or the speed twin had the looks of the T120). I’m going to test ride the T120, the speed twin and the 1200 scrambler back to back to back tomorrow. Hopefully it will become more clear. But the hint is really fun. Thanks for all the advice guys.

Hey guys. I’ve test ridden the T120 and the Speed Twin and I definitely preferred the motor and brakes of the Speed Twin. I think, however, I’m going with the Scrambler 1200 XC. It’s motor is more like the Speed Twin with the same brakes. It has a superior suspension and it still allows me to venture off asphalt. I test rode a 2019 Scrambler 1200 XC and came away thinking the 21” front wheel wasn’t too big a deal with its handling. And the 2022 has the cat moved to the rear so it’s less hot and easier to de-cat. It certainly wasn’t as flickable as the Speed Twin and the Thruxton, but it was a hell of a lot better than the KTM 890 Adv R.
I’ve found a pre-owned 2022 Scrambler XC with 500 miles on it for about $10,500 pre tax out the door. It still has a year factory warranty left. That’s a pretty amazing price right? Or am I missing something? Any advice before I pull the trigger would be appreciated. Thanks!

Send photos soon . Congrats on the purchase , seems like a great deal to me .

I picked up my XC today from Brooklyn Triumph and trailered it to Western Maryland. I’m looking forward to a great twisty loop down to Davis, WV and back tomorrow. I’ll venture on some gravel and dirt also. I’ll share my impressions and some more pics when I get back. I gave the bike a quick ride around the block In Brooklyn before loading it in the trailer—man I love that motor—just puts a smile on my face!

Thanks guys!
