Howdy from North Georgia. I live about 15 miles south of Dahlonega, site of the first gold rush in America. This was before the gold strike in California. We are in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountain chain. As such, we are fortunate to have some great riding, if you like "the twisties." I recently purchased a 2023 Bonneville Speed Master, and I'm loving life! I've had to learn a new language. I thought it was a windshield, only to learn it is actually a fly screen! My crash bars turned out to be engine protectors! Lo and behold, my saddlebags turned into panniers! I'm so confused......

I look forward to learning from fellow members, who share my love of Triumphs!!! Cheers.....

Dahlonega. I did my token couple hazy weeks through that AO some years ago. Got to be some amazing riding up in there. Only riding I did in those woods was once or twice in the back of a Deuce & a 1/2 and dangling below a MC1-1 Parachute. I've aways intended to swing back through to pay my respects someday. Maybe next year.

Welcome aboard.

That must be nostalgia on Triumph's part. These days, there are no flies to wipe off a windscreen after a drive/ride. The insects are going, gone, in Europe.

Yes, I think in the UK people would say windscreen, at least those of a certain age. They'd say crash bars too, maybe Triumph don't want to be pessimistic and use the word crash. My understanding is saddlebags are definitely soft and throw-over. Panniers would be used for fixed hard cases, but perhaps too for 'saddlebags'.

…Indeed. Dahlonega/Camp Merrill is Mountain Phase. 2nd phase of 4 when I went through. They whittled it down to 3 and got rid of Desert Phase in 1995, which was asinine considering another eventual war in the MidEast was inevitable.

Welcome from sunny North Texas. Don't forget to post up a pic of your beauty, everyone likes pictures. I bought my first Triumph back in 1999, a Trophy 1200 (back when they had 4 cylinders). I missed that bike so much when I sold it in 2007 I bought a 1998 Trophy 1200 a couple years ago. It was a non runner and was damaged by hail and weather. After many hours of consternation she was up and running, bodywork corrected and I've been enjoying weekend rides on it for the past couple years (just had it inspected for reregistration yesterday).

I refer to the little one on the Thruxton as a fly screen , keeps dead flys off the front of the clocks . It’s a windshield on the Tiger . Prince Edward Island is about 90% agricultural land and fifty years ago a half hour jaunt in the countryside would have you splattered . I did three hours at a good clip a few days ago and the face shield didn’t really need a cleaning . Aren’t pesticides wonderful. Really miss those big bumblebees , catching one of those on the face was always a wake up call , Endangered species these days .
