Decided to join looking for tech info after interesting ride on my Tiger 800 ie three hundred and fifty miles in first gear - have now found out that there was an "issue" with the gear selection mechanism on early models (!!) - repairs in currently progress. I started riding bikes on a Puch Maxi in 1976, followed variously over the years by BSA 650, Velocette 500, Suzuki 550, Honda 750, Honda VFR, BMW R1100, and current Norton Commando and Tiger 800..... Writing that makes me realise how old I must be.....
