Yes it was, for the same reason (the week by the coast). I wasn't sure how to deal with it.

Ultimately I (repeatedly) sprayed chain lube on to a rag and then worked it all over the chain. It cleans the chain, you can remove the rust and it leaves a protective film over everything. Then I gave the chain a normal lube with Motul Road Wax lube. It worked well, but it was very messy!

I tried heavy-duty industrial pickling paste i got from work on my thruxton headers.. Didn't work!
And that paste removes oxides from welding stainless, how comes it cant remove bluing and rust-spots.. scratching my head here..
 
I don't know how old your bike is. The acid clean does not work too well on old headers/exhausts. A 3M Scotchbrite pad + metal cleaning paste + loads of elbow grease is probably what is needed.

It's an 04 thruxton, headers are stainless and the pickling paste should be strong enough to remove everything.. well might have to try again..
