From 29 April to 1 May, these 3 events, that will definitely all go down in history, happened:

Royal Wedding - Kate & William
Beatification of Pope John Paul II
OBL killed.

I've searched all kinds of history sites and can't find any other period in history when 3 such important incidents took place within days of each other.

Anyone able to find something like this? But it has to be world history, not specific to 1 one country.

Beatification - It's a declaration by the current pope that a dead person (deceased Pope John Paul II) is in heaven, and is the 3rd of 4 step toward canonization - becoming a Saint. A person who is beatified is given the title "Blessed" and the "Blessed" can intercede to the Saints on our behalf when us mere mortals pray in the name of the Blessed. :-) So what happened is that a nun in some obscure village somewhere claimed she prayed in the name of Pope John Paul II and was cured of her arthritis or something - therefore the Catholic church deduced that Pope JPII must indeed be in Heaven, heard this nun's prayer and interceded with God, Jesus Christ on her behalf to cure her. Now he's been Beatified.

It has if you consider football a historic event!

16th May 1999 Manchester United win the Premier League Title.

22nd May 1999 Manchester United win the FA Cup.

26th May 1999 Manchester United win the European Champions League.

A treble that had never been done before!

Come on you Reds!!!!!!!

(you can probably guess I am a football fanatic and support United!)

I agree, AJ; but it is significant for the Roman Catholic world - which includes a good many people.

Gromit, those are definitely historic events worldwide. Quite and eventful three days.

In 1971 these things happened.....

1) I got my first 2 wheeled vehicle (Piaggio 'Ciao' moped)
2) I had my first $exual experience (with another party)
3) I had my first lsd trip

It's relative......

Sorry Gromit.... but the pope is just a frail old man with a jumped up opinion of himself ..... he is no better than you, or I or anyone else in the world.

What makes any one of us qualified to be a saint?

:y14:

My Mom's side of the family, being French-Canadian and all..... are staunch Catholics.

So I have and Uncle that named his Son "John Paul" after the Pope. We call him the Little Pope...LOL!

I guess that means I have a Cousin who I'll have to call Saint Little Pope now?

We all see things so very differently.

1. Royal Wedding - Kate & William. Two pampered prats got married. I enjoyed the military parades.
2. Beatification of Pope John Paul II. Saying nothing as I don't wish to offend.
3. OBL killed. He probably deserved it, 75% convinced. Unfortunate that he didn't get a trial in an international court.

Number 3 will be remembered.

Number 3 will be remembered.
and lessons learned i hope !

I'm fairly sure that Kate & Wills wedding will be remembered just as Charles & Di's is.

It's kind of nice to see two people who actually WANTED to be married to each other this time 'round. I too loved watching the horses.

OBL? He got afforded the same courtesy he extended to his victims....and he did admit to it on camera in a video released by his own Al Qaeda. Unless he was a moron admitting to mass murder, he's guilty.

I haven't bothered to watch the royal wedding; I couldn't care less. But I do agree that it is historic. Not being Roman Catholic, I 'm really interested in all the ritual, saints, etc. However, it is most definitely historic to the Roman Catholic world.

Number three will be remembered because most of the world has been affected by 9/11 and its aftermath. I think Osama got exactly what he deserved without the chance to be on stage and have his burial place as as a shrine.

I'm a very lapsed Catholic - there is much in the hierarchy/structure/processes etc within the RCC that I do not subscribe to. But there are millions of RCC's around the world who really do believed that the Pope is God Ordained and His direct representative on earth. To go into Catholism would mean that this thread would be moved which is not what I intended.
It's simply extraordinary that 3 such huge, global, historic events took place within 3 days of each other whether you're a royalist or not, a RCC or not, support the fight against terrorism or not - it's still an exceptional time in world history.
