Thank you, Rocky. We had a really good Turkey Day. We brought Dad home from rehab on Wednesday so I am very thankful that he is doing well and that Mae Lyne is doing well and cancer free.

was wondering how it was going with your dad Carl
is he home to stay ?

Yes, he is home to stay. He is about 95% of where he was before his fall. He has a followup doctor's appointment tomorrow and I expect he will be cleared to drive again. He does use a cane most of the time now; but mainly as a precaution. He does not need it to routinely walk; but he does need it for uneven or sloped surfaces.

What caused his fall is that his right leg drags just a little bit. When he built this house in 1947, he was in his mid 20's. The steps have an 8 inch (20.3 cm) rise. That was fine for them then. The recommended rise for disabilities is 4 inches (10.2 cm). Had the steps had a 4 inch rise, he would not have fallen. The rise from ground level to the door is 30 inches (76.2 cm). The door is at the top step; there is no landing. We are having a six foot deck built over the steps, level with the doorway entry and steps with a 4 inch rise leading down from the deck. If the time comes, we can add a wheelchair ramp.
