For those of you who don't know, today is St George's Day, the Patron saint of England.
I'm afraid it is not celebrated as it should be anymore, but as a proud Englishman I always celebrate it and fly the flag in my Garden!
So Happy St George's Day to everyone!

Be careful flying that Flag Gumpt , there will be 20 local by-laws why you can,t if you have a Labour Council plus it could be deemed as racist by our recently arrived bretheren.

To quote Richard the 1st in Palestine

God for King Harry , St George and England :y120:

The True Dragon by Brian Patten

St George was out walking
He met a dragon on a hill,
It was wise and wonderful
Too glorious to kill

It slept amongst the wild thyme
Where the oxlips and violets grow
Its skin was a luminous fire
That made the English landscape glow

Its tears were England’s crystal rivers
Its breath the mist on England’s moors
Its larder was England’s orchards,
Its house was without doors

St George was in awe of it
It was a thing apart
He hid the sleeping dragon
Inside every English heart

So on this day let’s celebrate
England’s valleys full of light,
The green fire of the landscape
Lakes shivering with delight

Let’s celebrate St George’s Day,
The dragon in repose;
The brilliant lark ascending,
The yew, the oak, the rose

Sorry about that got carried away by a fit of Patriotism, just not the done thing here in England where a stiff upper lip is the order of the day :y18:

I have some friends here with me on holiday from the UK (Liverpool, Merseyside) They reminded me that it was St.Georges day today, so we went out for the day sightseeing and now we are home again celebrating with lotsa beer... As a true Scouser should...

HAPPY St. GEORGES DAY to all the Brits and ex Pats on this forum... Hic...

I know what you mean about the flag flying Geoff, there are numerous councils in England who do not allow the St George cross to be displayed for fear of up setting someone!
So last year I bought a flag pole and put it up in my garden, and I fly the flag every day of the year. The Mrs reckons I've lost the plot!
But I keep telling her, if we don't stand up for our rights we soon won't be allowed too! It's a case of use it or lose it!
