To all of those celebrating Saint George's Day have a great one

St George is the Patron Saint of Farside's 'clan' but we celebrate St George (not St George's day) in November when we have his traditional Yugoslavian Slava, a type of Thanks Giving. I don't know why I can't post photos anymore (the link to upload has disappeared) but if I could, I'd post some pics of last year's Slava with the St George icon very much present.

Happy St George's Day :-)

Oh boy your profile sure is broken this time just checked and I see what you mean, I will look into it for you :y10:

OK, here's our St George icon with the Slava 'cake' and candle - the cake is really bread and we turn it upside down, cut a cross into it and pour red wine into the bread to symbolise the Body of Christ, the Blood of Christ - very religious day in our calendar. 355.jpg

Yugoslav but as per todays split ups, Serbian so we'd say 'Srecna Slava' although all the ethnicities of the former Yugo Republic celebrate their relevant Slava's. Each family clan has their own Patron Saint though and each Saint's slava is celebrated on a different day. Very interesting history about Slava but this thread is to celebrate St George not Slava. :y2:

Dave, I never knew that St George looked that good, No wonder the dragon didn't stand a chance. Loved the St Georges picture as well. That was a good find. As Gumpt 100 says it's not celebrated much in England, local councils don't want to offend other religions, and I agree it should be a national holiday too. It's sad when a country can't celebrate it's own national day.
