My wife and I will be home at midnight watching the fireworks on TV from city hall and enjoying a glass of wine to welcome in the new year.
A safe, healthy and happy new year to all :y18:

With my wife and children, after giving, we are to see the burning of dolls (very traditional here). The weather is spectacular (35 º C now, night 27 º C), and tomorrow we started to see the Dakar 2011. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL RIDERS OF THE WORLD !!!!!! :y18: :y115:

Happy New Year, Dave, Rocky, Carlos and all. We stayed home and watched the peach drop in Atlanta. I do not like to be on the roads on this night.

Feliz Año Nuevo, David, Carlos de roca, y todo eso. Nos quedamos en casa y vio la caída de melocotón en Atlanta. No me gusta estar en las carreteras en esta noche.

The race took off today from 14:00 local Hs. Involved 407 vehicles from ATVs, motorcycles, cars and trucks. Travel dirt roads and desert sands by 9000 km for 16 days.

I'm sure SPEED Channel will cover the rally. As they say, "Check your local schedule" :ya2:
Having ridden in the Atacama Desert (on the road of course) I have more interest in this event than I used to.

What?! You did not take off cross country on your own?! :y114:

Most of the road in the Atacama is paved, but some of it in the vast salt flats it is a hard packed clay-like and salt material. It's hard and pretty smooth so you can clip along at 100 kph (60 mph) easily enough.
But off the road it's a nightmare and I couldn't even begin to imagine riding a bike there let alone a four-wheeled vehicle.
Like the Sahara, it's a remote and brutal area.
The rally was held in South America last year so I'll be intersted in any coverage we get once they get to Chile.

Much of the desert in the Southwestern US and in Mexico is fairly hard packed although some areas are quite rocky. It is relatively easy to go cross country on two wheels or four. I really enjoy the desert in the Southwest.

Well get on out here before I am too old to ride!

It's no trouble. Robby Gordon is a little tricky this year with his Hummer, but by their sympathy, he's always news ... :y114: Good road, Carlos from Ensenada, Argentina.

Hi Carls:
Sorry for taking to respond, but yesterday I could not sit in front of the PC I am covered work, everyone remembers the summer bike !!!!.
The translator gives me an ambiguous phrase, if you refer to the race, passing 800 kilometers (500 miles) from my house and I might not go. Are you referring to participate, I have really wanted, maybe in 2013 ... God willing, of course on a motorcycle. :y114:
Good routes, Carlos from Ensenada, Argentina

Me alegro de que usted tiene un montón de trabajo. Esa es una buena cosa.

Me refería en realidad a ser un espectador. Creo que estaría bien para ser un participante. Por favor, háganos saber si usted decide entrar en la carrera en 2013.

I am glad that you have a lot of work. That is a good thing.

I was actually referring to being a spectator. I think it would be cool to be a participant. Please let us know if you decide to enter the race in 2013.

The race is now in parts of Chile where I have been and all the names of the towns and places are very familiar to me - but of course I was riding on the road :ya2:
The Atacama is the driest desert on earth and it was awesome to ride through it.
