It is that time of year and we have two tropical system close by and a third on the way. Florida dodged Gustav; but he is sending rain and squalls across the western panhandle of the state. Ft Polk Louisiana is directly in his path. That is where my son and his family are. Gustav is moving on shore just west of the Big Easy as I type this. It is not a severe storm; but 115 mph winds can do a lot of damage. It is a large storm. Tropical force winds extend 230 miles (370 kilometers) in all directions from the center. That makes the storm 460 miles (740 kilometers) wide.

By Thursday, tropical storm Hanna will be affecting the eastern counties of Central and North Florida. She is supposed to be a hurricane by then grazing the cost of Florida and going inland in the Savannah, Georgia area.

Brace yaself again mate.......tree roots are already saturated so bit of wind and down they go. Even more so with Canopies on these trees that have not been trimmed out. I had one heck of a week trying to do my bloody job on some of these yards.

Dont forget mate ya know where I'm at if ya need me.

Ride safe

It is looking like Hannah will only sideswipe us and hit the Savannah, Georgia area. That means we will get a little rain and some winds. But it will definitely cause more beach erosion. And they are two more behind her to watch. This is an active tropical season to say the least.

My son and his family came through Gustav all right. Power loss and debris down is all they suffered. Trey worked the 1800 to 0600 in the Ft Polk EOC as the storm passed.

Carl,

Glad to hear ya family are ok mate, thank God Hanna is gonna scrape us but the other two sitting out there??? I dont know mate....I dont like any of it...hahaha

And we aint talking about plywood on the windows......they now make the houses out of it...

You mean they can make them out of something else these days?
I hope Hanna behaves herself, the projected path I saw seems like she will come up and visit me after she waves to you folks down south.

Up here the weather forecasters are saying that Hanna will be here by next weekend to give us some wind but mostly a good soaking. If that's all the steam she has left we can put up with that - although my vintage bike club has an outdoor show and shine on Sunday that will probably be wiped out.

It looks like Dave, Keith and Rocky will get a taste of this one. We will get a little winds and rain as she will be off shore from us. Our beaches will take a bad beating, though.
It is the two more behind Hannah that have us watching.

There is no haven south. Cuba, Jamaica, Central and the northern part of South America get hit too. Guess I need to go to Peru or Chile.

We should just head to Mexico, there should be plenty of room for us there. I think the last count for this country was one Mexican for every eight US citizens. At that rate, they should be all moved out in the next 5 years. Sorry for going off-topic!

OK, so I'm directionally challenged but you get the drift anyway. There's a welcome mat out.
