Google slammed with $22.5 million dollar fine for violating privacy assurances - This one is best described with a quote from the article about this:

"According to government's allegations, Google bypassed Apple software's privacy settings to track users across the DoubleClick advertising network. That tracking provided DoubleClick with a road map of individual tastes and gave a better handle of what kinds of marketing to show to a particular individual." And for that, Google has to pony up a huge honkin' fine. The FTC takes this stuff seriously.

The FTC charged that Google’s deceptive conduct had breached a settlement it reached with the government organization in October 2011, when the company’s now- invalid Buzz social networking service exposed people's email contacts."

Serves them right. This is why I absolutely despise Google. I won't use them and I block them at every opportunity.

YES!!!!!!! I love it ! This is justice the likes of which is rarely seen. And the reason i love it is that one huge case like this with a scary huge fine will help keep this kind of BS from happening so much. Theres far far too much spamming and tracking and all that cr@p happening and till now i thought no one would ever call them on it. In the last year my phone has been ringing every day anywhere from 1 to 5 times and when i pick up no one is there. I thought someone was harassing me so i got caller ID. What i found is they are all different phone numbers ! It's some sort of scheme. Probably where they hang up so you will be irritated and use caller ID or call return to call back and ask why they are harassing you, but you then get charged a fee for the call. Or some such thing. I dispise privacy invasion, so i'me so glad to hear this. I only wish i could do something about this phone spam garbage. But it's apparently very common, as many people i talked to about it report the same crap. Just another reason to say once again, "man do i long for the good ol days!!!" SAD

Could happen to a nicer (HEAVY SARCASM) company. I will not use Google for any search. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find a mapping site that works as easy. Bing Maps needs some improvement, guess I'll have to bite the bullet and try MapQuest again.

I use a old version of MS expedia streets. "Streets '98". I much prefer it to online maps for a lot of reasons. Great app, tho i'm not sure if the new versions are as good. But it's only about 30 bucks i think.

Well if you want to talk about scamming I would say MS is the biggest one of all. The entire way they run their software is geared to try and squeeze as much money out of you as they possible can ANGER

MS does not blatantly invade users' privacy. And this is not the first time Google has been caught. Their arrogance regarding privacy is my only issue with them; but it is a BIG issue. I have everything Google blocked on my computer. I might change my mind if they wchange their deceitful privacy practices.

Well then you should enjoy this one :y2:

Google’s New Privacy Policy (or, Why You Should Switch to Bing)

The way I look at it is the same as me going out into the street I project what part of me I want people to see and the private stuff stays private. Now with Google who cares if they know me as Joe Soap and see that I like searching for motorbike's, car's, animals and so on. I think I get more out of Google free than what they get out of me. I have software that does not allow tracking cookies at all, so that is sorted. Where do you stop using Google is it just the search engine or other services as well.

Well... Google owns:
