Google Maps Street View Driving Begins in South Africa

We're delighted to announce that we're starting to collect imagery in some of South Africa's major cities for Google Street View. And we're doing so with very special vehicles - a fleet of Toyota Priuses, kitted out with our amazing camera technology. We start driving with these remarkable hybrid cars today.

World Cup fever is already building, and people from around the globe are keen to experience everything that South Africa has to offer, even if they can't be there in person. We'll be working hard over the coming months to help bring South Africa's vibrant cityscapes to the world. Initially you can expect to see us on the road in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth and Durban.

I must admit I am actually quite excited about seeing the finished product of my city :y18: I suppose it will be some time before we see anything on our side

It is a neat thing. I have used it to recon staging areas for PGR missions without actually riding to the location to eyeball it.

Well I like it and use it a lot just to look around at places I may never otherwise see
