I've worked in the house building industry for 32 yrs now, started as an apprentice joiner, gradually worked my way up to Foreman, Site Manager, and then crossed over to the 'dark side' and became a Building Inspector.
Well the house building game in the UK is at rock bottom, there has been thousands of redundancies and for the past month all the staff at my company have been on 'notice'.
Well today was 'D Day', everyone got a letter to say whether you are being made redundant or not. Just opened the envelope, and I'm one of the lucky ones and kept my job! Unfortunately 25% of the workforce are not so lucky and finish work next friday .
So my job is safe for now, the letter said that the situation would be re-assessed in 3 months and didn't rule out further job losses, so its fingers crossed!
