I rode a Yamaha 80 in high school. Moved on to a 1967 Daytona Tiger. Then to a BMW LT. All are gone, but the Triumph was my favorite. And I will be getting another one as soon as I figure out which model and year, with your help,

Thanks for having me, Greg

Triumph has really upped their game these last handful of years. I am on my 5th newer Triumph, you will be pleased. Welcome!

Reason? Why not earlier?

# first year front disc brake
# one of only three years conical rear brake
# first or second year bike became a 750
# third year of 5 gears
# third year of oil in frame. (It's good, ignore the internet)
# despite all above, still RH gear shift
# considerably cheaper than a 60s bike.

So best of everything. '73 only year rocker boxes were polished too, to round it off. The bikes went downhill after '73.

That said, I've not had a 60s bike. Have heard the 70s bikes handle better too. Maybe that frame... not that my riding would notice.

I guess it all depends, if you’re in love with the classics then the older models are your thing. Would be nice to have the true old ones. I liked @solomon ’s run down. I’m kind of partial to the old drum brake in the front only for nostalgia reasons, it’s what motorcycles looked like when I first became aware of them. Not the fastest stop now, but they sure looked cool. Admittedly I went for a 2005 Thruxton, a bit of the old vibe with a new technology enough so as to be a bit more modern. So if you want what you remember then older, if you’re wanting a newer motorcycle probably any of the Bonneville variants might fit the bill.

That's almost a classic. Only a few more years!

Must say, Thruxtons look good bikes. That's what I'd get if I had the space. Not trying to be vintage, just is. Look like a good riding position. Lends itself to personalisation.
