So I suspected it from the time I looked at the bike, and certainly since I found out it is so out of calibration, how did this gas gauge got on there? Could this be original on the bike? It’s calibrated for something like a 4 gallon tank, so every time it’s down to the red it only takes 3.5 gallons to top it off. have any of you guys seen anything like this before? The previous owner has zero knowledge about the bike, which makes for lots of mysteries like this to solve.

Well it seems this is a common problem on the Rocket and from what I read some suggest replacing the unit is the way to go. Personally I never did trust any fuel gauge I have ever had on a bike. I normally just go by my tac reading and distance traveled as I found this method to be the safer way of doing it.

My last big cruiser, a Kawasaki, 2000, had a pretty cool little gauge, which had just LCD blocks that would disappear, each of which represented about a gallon. I did get to liking that. I always use the trip meter especially to calculate my mpg‘s, so that’s what I’ll use on the R3. I haven’t actually found what my range is to the fuel light coming on, because I’ve only had short rides of 40 or 50 miles at a whack.
