I’m really new with R3s and I’ve never ridden any any besides the one I’ve owned for two weeks, but I have clocked nearly 1000 miles on it and I have a question that you experienced guys can maybe answer, which is how much vibration do you feel either from the engine or from the drive train when you get up to say 3500 to 4500 RPMs? My point of reference is probably not a good one which is my Valkyrie, which was a flat 6 shaft drive, and that was so smooth even if I went all the way to red line, it would always feel very smooth, so maybe that’s not a fair comparison for the rocket three. my rocket three is not like a Harley or anything but it isn’t very smooth when I get up into the mid to upper rpm range and I’m just wondering if that’s normal.

Just for my sake, when I got done with a long ride, I went ahead and checked how hot is my bevel box and like the boot where the universal joint is and everything seems to be normal operating temperature and our weather here is warm 80s Thanks for your help.

Is that in all gears, at those rpms? If not, might be non-engine issue.
Yeah, the more I ride and feel it, I’m pretty sure it’s forward in engine rather than say the U joint in the driveshaft, because I know for the Valkyries guys would feel that vibration in their butt when that u-joint was ready to go out, but I’m sensing this vibration is in the motor, and it is in all the gears. It’s weird when I’m in fifth gear because that short little windshield allows so much wind buffeting that it’s hard for me to tell what’s going on even at 3K RPM the engine is pretty smooth but I’m getting thrashed by the wind at 75 miles an hour.

Here’s a video of me, ratcheting up the RPMs on my bike, of course, with no load in neutral. You can actually see the gauges starting to shake at 3K but I don’t know how like my Valkyrie would do for that. I think it wouldn’t be as shaky at higher rpm’s. I’m thinking a lot of it at highway speed is just wind buffeting like I said in my other post. So I’m just gonna ride the thing and enjoy it.

Coming in late here. I see this same question come up somewhat regularly between all the Triumph forums and all the groups and pages on Facebook. It’s always “unexplained vibrations” in the 3K-4K range. I had it myself at around 5K miles- Speed Twin. I bounced it off my main man/go-to Triumph wrench and took note of the copious replies gotten on the Fb. “It’s a Triumph thing” is the general consensus as well as “It goes away.”

I know that’s not very reassuring and the Rocket is an entirely different format, but FWIW it did in fact go away on my bike as well as others who fielded this question.

To be honest, I was afraid it had something horrific going on like rod knock or piston slap. I don’t know what my bikes history is, and I feared that it have been horribly thrashed by one of the previous owners ( I don’t even know which number I am—4? 5?) Point is, I’m OK with it, I’ve listen to enough engines in my life to conclude that this isn’t a big deal and that the motor is sound and will continue to run OK. For what it’s worth in the 1500 miles I’ve ridden the bike so far it hasn’t gotten any worse!
