The forum has been down as of Wednesday, 22-Sep-2010 12:53:01 CDT (Wednesday, 22-Sep-2010 17:53:01 GMT) 20:00 SA. I have now been talking to our host for an hour. It is coming and going as we speak :sad:

It was very slow when I logged in at 16:45 EDT
I had to change the settings on our domain name to that could take anything up to 48 hour to propagate. It seems very fast this mornning for me so maybe it is now done
Well today is the fastest I have seen the forum in a very long time :y18:
I missed the down time, but it's working great now!
I also nearly missed it as I was just about to log off for the night :y114:
I guess I missed it too. All seems OK today.
It is faster than it has been in a long time. I missed all of the down time. I probably will still not understand after you explain it; but what are the settings to the domain name and how does this affect the speed?
We changed it to run on a new DNS server as the one it was on seems to be having issues. This is why it can take up to 48 hours to propagate. See all as clear as mud

It CAN take that long, but it can also happen almost immediately. It all depends.

I don't know how he does it either, Gary - but I am glad he does. Actually, we get by on the sponsor donations and don't have to look at ads, which also would slow the site down.
Dave, I do understand that explanation and I agree with AJ. I, too, suspect that server was the source of a lot of our issues. Did you move the domain over to Host Gator?

The domain has been with Hostgator for a number of years now but apparently they had a server upgrade when they moved and we got left on the old one :tongue: I agree this must have been causing a lot of our problems in the last few month. The thing is I am never really sure if the slowdown is my side or the forum as they have been doing major upgrades on our broadband this side in the last month as well.
I agree with Carl about the advertising as long as we get by on our donations we are ok. I don't want some company to start telling us how or what to do on the forum just because they are paying for ad space. As far as the time goes I seem to be able to slot it all into my day :y114:
