I saw a couple of comments in posts about flashing rear brake lights, and thought I'd throw a link up from the superbrightleds.com store.

The part number is 1157-R3W-FL.

I bought two of these flashers for my Honda CRF230 and Honda VTX 1300. On a whim, I pulled the one out of the little Honda tonight and did the 2-minute install on Barney. It works just great. Here's a 10-second video of it.

The light costs $18.95USD plus shipping from St. Louis, MO. (Shipping was about $4.50 for one to Virginia.)

YMMV --

Hey, DRod,

Mine is indeed cheaper and easier to install, for me, but actually I really like that Mode 1 on your BackOff unit better. I like that the flash-steady repeats as long as the brake is applied. I have to remind myself to release the brake and reapply it to get the flashers to come on again.

But I doubt that I could have wired that BackOff unit. Good on ya for doing that!

I had a unit like BackOff on a Honda Hawk NT650 I bought when I came back to bikes in 1992. As a "new" rider I figured I needed all the help I could get.
That bike is long gone and the unit with it, but I didn't upgrade to such a unit on later bikes because by then I had more experience and confidence.
I took to flashing my brake light with either my foot or hand when I'm in traffic and that has become second nature.
I also do that when sitting at a traffic light until all the traffic has come to a stop.
But that light bulb had piqued my interest and may give it a go BGRIN

BTW Sarah, tell us how you're getting along with the bike. We haven't heard much from you lately.

I'm still looking forward to decent weather so I can get a bike out - probably in 2-3 weeks.

the backoff module is very simple to install. simply splicing of two wires and done. just remove seat and install. no need to remove tail light or anything else. It can also be programmed to flash and stop or leave it flashing continuously. but your bulb idea is interesting. I wonder if it is compatible with my wife's harley and my upcoming Thruxton...
