The day started off very cool at 7C (45F) and I almost didn't bother to go, but 26 riders turned up for the spring ride to the town of Windsor for lunch. As the morning wore on the sun warmed things up quite a bit, but only to 13C (55F).
Half way there is this oasis in a small village. It's a combo variety store, donut shop and Esso gas station. It's a gold mine as it's the only such facility in that rural area and draws customers from all around. It's under a new corporation owner now and improved from when we were there last year.
In a show of gratitude for all of us dropping in and making so many refreshment sales, the manager gave us three plates of his grilled cheese sandwich free of charge. It was a very nice gesture and we will always stop there anyway when we ride that way. Good PR on his part.
Only half the bikes are in this picture with the rest spread around the parking area.
Some of the bikes out for the first ride and probably have been seen before.
We stopped for lunch at the Spitfire Arms pub as we always do and rode home the way we came. This is a picture from last year.
For me it was a 189 mile (302 kms) round trip on my trusty 51 year-old BSA.
The road to Windsor has suffered from the winter freeze/thaw/freeze cycles and was pot-holed and broken up in places, but we managed to dodge the bad spots.
Never-the-less, it was a beautiful sunny day and everyone was grateful to finally get back on the road.
