I have on order a 2012 Bonneville T100 from my dealer. I have ordered an Arrow 2 into 2 exhaust sys. with it.
Is there any I can modify the stock exhaust sys. to sound almost like or just like the Arrow to save $$$?

Jimbo

Jimbo there are various way you can modify your standard pipes to get this result. I know a few members have done it and I am sure one will come along and give you some great advice on what is best here

Not sure about a T100, but I'm sure you can gut the standard pipes on them too.

I'm sure the Bonneville guys can help.

Fuel and exhaust systems work in concert. If you modify one you generally have to modify the other.
I know it was common to remove baffles and change jets in the carb equipped bikes to get a rumble, but now that we have EFI bikes I would be careful and work with the dealer or other expert tuner on the best setup.

Thanks Rocky.
I'm back on the fence about keeping the Arrow pipes or not. I think for I'll stay with them for now.

I installed 60's era silencers on my 03 T100. I put baffles in the header pipes just in front of the silencers. I got the baffles from JC Whitney. Here are three sources for after market pipes. You can find 60's or 70's style silencers.

If you have questions, the guys BellaCorse and New Triumph Bonneville are very helpful. Each of them owns modern Bonnevilles and they are avid riders. I have met and ridden with both of them.

If you install aftermarket pipes (freerer flowing), you will need to install or have your dealer install the Arrow map. You can then fine tune it from there or take take it to a shop and have it tuned.

Jimbo, I have performed a bafflectomy on my 2012 scrambler , if you YouTube bafflectomy you will find a few that have done this.....And after this I did a 20 min tune, it wild I tell you and I saved $ 1200.00..if you would like mor to detail just let me know

Cheeky,
Please tell me more!!! I have my first service app. in about a week, and I suppose I should wait till then before I do anything radical (that is, what they won't approve of) to my Bonneville, but I really do want to improve at least the sound of it for now.
So what ever you suggest will be a help to me.
Thanks,

Jimbo

Okay, here's what I did. I got my new T100 with the stock exhaust. I tried doing the bafflectomy about two weeks ago and I burnt out three 1 1/4" hole saws (according to the instructions I found online) trying. Turns out 1 1/4" is too big a dia. saw to use in these. Last week I tried a 1 1/8" saw and it went right through. After much more drilling and yanking and sweat, I got the pipe out and all the baffle material and what have you.
I started the engine and almost went into a panic attack. IT WOULDN'T RUN!!! It sputtered and spit and popped and gurgled. I shut it off after about 10 seconds of revving. Persistent S.O.B. that I am I started it again. Same thing. Again, a little better maybe, but I wasn't sure. Tried again and revved it for maybe 30 seconds. It actually sounded better(??). Started it again and raised the idle so it would stall and let it run. Viola. It straightened it self out! Turned down the idle and took it for a ride and it was fine ever since. With the low growling sound that I was looking for, and it was nearly free (except for a few burnt nerves of mine).
What does anybody think? Is this typical? Is this what usually happens on an EFI type engine?

Yes, EFI's have a certain window that it can adjust to whatever air / fuel ratio is desired by the ECU.

Depending on what you do to the bike, how much you change the 'breathing' - the EFI will so it's best to adjust to the target set by the ECU. However when you make a change that goes outside of the window, the EFI cannot adjust enough (or fully).

I would do the 12 minute tune, to allow it to settle. (It's on this forum)

Keep an eye for running too lean (see if your pipes change colour near the headers).
If it's all okay, I would ask for a TORS tune at your next service, it'll richen it up a tad for a 'more open' exhaust system - this will allow the EFI to sit more to the middle of the operating window. Possibly adding a bit more ooomph too.

Thanks guys for the input. Avion, I'm doing the 12 minute tune now so I'll see what happens, but my pipes have been changing color(brown & blue) since way before I did anything to it. The dealer said that this is normal. Maybe he"s lying?

Show me any of the 790 or 860 twins, carbed or efi, with no blueing, and I'll show you a bike thats not been ridden.

sorry. I wasn't clear. I meant changing colour from how it was before you did the exhaust mod. So look for the pipe to go a darker blue and creep away from the engine, further down the pipe.
If you can't really see any difference then there's no need to worry. j
