Electric bikes at the IOM 2009

I'm sure you've all heard about the TTXGP races at the IOM, the electric bikes.

They were averaging 80mph laps, so they ain't exactly slow, although acceleration was down compared to regular bikes of course. Wandering through the paddocks I managed to get quite a few shots of them.

They are not totally silent as one might think, you can hear them coming if you listen hard enough. :wink:

Another thing I found out is that you cannot top up the charge, you first have to drain it completely, to do this they use big ass coils which give off a lot of heat.

You can also make out the BRB (big red button) on some of the bikes. This is a safety cut out so you can make sure that the bike is off.

Some university entrants, some big companies and some private - limited budget of 35k pounds though.

I think they're getting there to be honest. However nothing can make up for the sound of a combustable engine on song.
