Peter Egan's column in the November 2009 issue of Cycle World (the one with the "new" Indian on the cover) is once again very Triumph friendly.

Peter is well known as being particular to Bonnevilles and this month he reveals he now owns a T100 and a Scrambler and needs to let one or the other go.

Peter and I could have been best friends growing up. I too have idolized the Bonneville since I rode a neighbor's brand new white 1963 Bonneville at the age of 15 and was blown away at the raw power of its a twin carb 650 engine. Since that day, no other bike has been THE motorcycle for me.

Yes, I have owned many, many bikes much bigger with much more power and lots more speed, but none that ever felt as "right" as the Bonneville.

I took me 3 years of mods to get my 2003 T100 perfect and I wouldn't trade it for any new bike made. It simply cannot be improved upon in any way.

Except... I have also lusted for a scrambler since the 1969 Norton Commando S came out, and the Bonneville Scrambler is close enough to scratch that itch (I commuted on a Yamaha scrambler during college as it was all I could afford then). Except... "the sound" is missing. The Sound comes from those magnificent Norman Hyde Togas and the Scrambler ain't got it. If Triumph (or any after market manufacturer) can put the Toga sound into a set of scrambler pipes, there will be a scrambler in my garage.

Anyway, Egan's column is a start on a T100 vs. a Scrambler debate. I think the best decison he could make would be to keep both.

Then, there is also this unsatisfied need for a Hurricane...
