Easy Start Headlight Control

Newer Triumphs, all models will not start if the headlight bulb (both filiments) or the bulb is removed - like when you are running Tune ECU or some other tuning program. The headlight wiring is part of the starter circuit. If the headlight bulb is not offering resistance, the starter will not engage.

This is a module that that plugs into the headlight wiring harness on one end and the headlight bulb plus into the other end. This device allows you to start your bike without the headlight being on. This particular module is for the Bonneville family of bikes with single headlights.

This is something I never gave any thought to up until now, good find

I discovered this when I wanted to use TuneECU on the Tiger. You need to have the ignition on to run the tune and that means the headlights are on. If you take the bulbs out, the bike will not start.

That's interesting Carl, thanks for posting. So just to get this clear in my numbskull, are you saying that if your headlight bulb blows when your out on a ride, the bike will not start again?

Yes, if both filaments are gone, it will not start until you replace the bulb. This is true for the newer Bonneville family, My guess is that it starts with the EFI models. The new Tigers are the same way and I am told all of the newer Triumphs have the same starting circuitry.
