Well Chris and I went to this tonight, after about 10 mins the rain came down and never stopped. But the icing on the cake was the Spitfire that came over my head 3 times at no more than 200 feet, Christ what a sound. Rocky I thought of you, I obviously got my camera with me and managed to get 2 great shots of the cloud, minus the Spitfire :ohwell:
Anyway here are a few pictures for you to have a look at.

Whilst we are looking at aircraft saw this amazing aero engine, saw so much can't remember all the facts but think it was a Pratt and Whitney 24 cylinder all Pistons on the same crankshaft. It was a working model turning by an electric motor an incredible piece of engineering which was mesmerizing to watch!!

Super pictures. Pity about the rain.
The sound of a Merlin right over your head must have been amazing!

The only time I experienced that was near the end of WWII when I was only 7-8 years old.
I lived on a farm near an air station training base. I was outside playing when several Hurricane's blasted over my head at tree top level.
But there were a couple of times when my father stopped his truck on the road near the air station and we watched the Lanc's take off right over our heads with fire belching from the exhaust pipes.
In those days you could see across the flat land to the air base. These days trees have grown up and you can no longer see the base which is still active for training and search and rescue.

When I win the lottery Rocky I'll fly you 1st class to RAF Coningsby to experience the sound again for yourself, for them 3 brief moments I forgot all about the rain and was lost in the unbelievable sight and sound of the worlds most famous fighter plan, no more than 200ft above my head. As you know Rocky, Chris was in the RAF, and he knew what height it was at.
The markings were from the Normandy landings.
