Well its took some doing to come on this my favourite forum and admit the following too people who I regard as true friends, I hope none of you think worse of me for it and I can only hope the embarrassment will ease with time .

Joel , Deborah's eldest son, has gone and

JOINED THE ROYAL AIR FORCE

Its probably my fault, when he asked me to sum up what the Airforce did, I thought long and hard and then based on my 27 years Military service told him 'They wear comfortable shoes and spend a lot of time admiring themselves in mirrors'

He said that sounded ok to him and went to sign on. Goes in June as a potential Aircraft Technician

Anyone who joins the forces, which ever one, has my greatest respect!
I've been listening to 5 live this morning and the phone in was about joining the forces.(mainly against)
I have never heard such a load of lily livered drivel in my life! So it's nice to hear of a young lad joining up.
If he's not going in until June, there's plenty of time for you to give him a bit of 'army' training Geoff!

Mon : Foot Drill . Form up. Right Turn at the halt , Left turn at the Halt . About Turn at the Halt
Tue: Foot Drill . Saluting to the front/left/right
Wed;Map Reading . Mag North, True North , Grid North & 6 figure grid references .
Thur;First Aid . Use of a Triangular Bandage followed by Foot Drill . Turnings on the March.
Fri: Weapon Training. Weapon Safety and the Marksmanship principals .

As he is going in the RAF he will not work weekends .

Carl any input to the training programme greatley appreciated , if you want to write week 2 . (Note to Army Instructors , Fitness training not to include any exercises which are liable to disrupt a recruits hairstyle)

Thanks for that idea Gumpt, I,m now working on getting him best Recruit :y115:

And as a RAF guy once pointed out to me," In the Air force we send the Officers off to fight"

Though that Blue Suit would have clashed with my eyes .

Geoff, please give Joel my thanks and that I send my respect for his choice to serve his country in uniform - even if it is the Air Farce! :y114:

You forgot to tell him that he will also have comfortable, DRY quarters to sleep in unlike us infantry types. I do not know how it is in the RAF, but in the USAF, enlisted folks live a lot better than they do in the Army. But promotions come a lot slower.

Week 2
Mon : PT - push ups and sit ups. Foot Drill . Form up. Right Turn at the halt , Left turn at the Halt . About Turn at the Halt - Flanking movements on the march
Tue: Foot Drill . Right side step & Left Side step. Dress and cover
Wed; PT - push ups, sit ups, two mile run. Map Reading . Compass and pacing
Thur; First Aid . Nuclear, Biological and Chemical deontamination followed by Foot Drill . Turnings on the March. Oblique movements.
Fri: PT - push ups, sit-ups, two mile run. Weapon Training. Weapon Safety and the Marksmanship principals . Field strip and cleaning.

Glad your covering NBC Carl, not my favorite subject. :y18:

Your right about living conditions, on an exercise at Bad Tolz (pull up a sandbag and swing that lantern) we had the RAF deliver a truck load of parachutes out for the second phase of the exercise, I was the duty Sgt and when I told the RAF Coporal I had a tent set up for them he turned green, and muttered something about Hotel and expenses. Within 10 minuets a Merc turned up and whisked the Cpl and Driver off to some Hotel.

We had Army Air Corp officers under canvas and RAF other ranks in a Hotel, makes you wonder who has got it right. RAF promotion is slower as there career structure goes up to 55 but for the Army its 40. Though I got a 3 year extension due to a shortage of qualified SNCO,S to promote to Sgt. Major.

I'll cover NBC and compass and pacing. Using the compass and pacing were my forte. I, too, am not overly fond of NBC!

Spooky, and mine, don,t forget to add time on for each contour :y115:

Telegraph poles through peat bogs, good idea in principle but difficult when you only have one recruit.
But Gumpt you are thinking on the right lines you can come aboard as a training consultant :y18:
