Yup, after 3 years and 36000 ks my bike got wrecked from under me today.
Had picked up the nz wide tag from Opiki, and was heading up to the Manawatu gorge enroute to Mangatanoka to place the tag at the Tui brewery when a shortsighted asian lady pulled a U turn right in front of me on the highway between Palmerston North and Ashhurst.
I was scrubbing of speed (read fully locked up ) and had managed to point the bike at an escape route which would have taken me behind her had she kept moving, when she decided to see me and stopped dead in her tracks, leaving her people carrier type van square across my lane.
Upshot was, I hit her right on the rear corner of her van, leaving a lovely imprint of the right side of my body in her panelwork. The impact momentarily stopped me allowing my trusty speedy to lie down on her left side, and waiting for me to land on top of her before sliding 20 odd metres down the road and taking all the gravel rash which was meant for me.
Allas, I feel she sacrificed her all for me, for as we finally came to a halt all her life blood drained from her as a huge hole was ripped in the side of the crankcase.
R I P my beloved speedy, I hope they can put you back together, but I fear you may have breathed your last.

No broken bones or serious lacerations, but I do feel like I've been on the wrong end of a severe beating.
Lots of heavy duty bruising and a well twisted knee, but absolutely no gravel rash.
Strange thing is, because I was out for a 4 hour ride I was wearing my full face, yet not a mark on my lid.

as for insurance, yes I have it, just hope I can replace it for the cover I have on it.

Really glad to hear you are doing well.....the rest is secondary!

That said.....did you get the police to come? This sounds like her fault and therefore she'd be responsible for your bike and any medical bills....at least here in the States that would be the case as long as the police file a report.

So sorry to hear that you had a prang but, much more importantly glad to know that you escaped without serious injury. I hope all the insurance angles work out for you & that you get your bike repaired or replaced the way you want it to all work out.

Dave.

Harry, I am so glad you were not seriously hurt; but so sorry that you had this get off. I'm sorry about your Speedy and I hope it can be repaired. I can tell you from experience that those engine cases are expensive. I bought a complete 900cc engine - minus the head - from a salvage yard for about a third of the price Triumph wanted for the just the cases.

You are going to be mighty stiff and sore for the next three or four days. You will hurt in places you didn't know you had places! Please keep us updated on your healing progress.

Also let us know how the insurance works out on your Speedy.

Sorry to here about your prang Harry, but very pleased to hear you are OK and only a bit bruised!
Have a few days rest and sink a few cold ones and you'll be right as rain.
The bike can be repaired or replaced, I see a shiny EFI T100!

I'm glad to hear that you were able to walk away with only very minor injuries.
The bike can be replaced, but you're one of a kind and can never be replaced.
I hope things work out OK with insurance, etc.
We had a rash of bike crashes here just this past week. Three ended with death and were single vehicle incidents. Another involved a deer and a Harley, but I don't know anything about the rider yet.

I am so sorry to hear about this. It is not fun for your body and it really hurts to look at the speedy. My little accident put a small dent, about the size of a quarter, in my tank and it still hurts to see it. Hope she can be repaired and you heal well.

Dave

Man, that sucks! I'm glad to hear that you're not too banged up. The state of the bike is prolly upsetting you - at least it's only the bike. Replacing a limb is rather difficult.

Believe me, a long soak in a hot bath will do wonders for the aches and pains. You'll maybe only start to feel the brunt of it tomorrow.

Glad you still around to give us a post. :>

yup, 4 cop cars turned up and an ambulance carted me away to hospital where they held me for two or three hours for x rays and observations.
One of the cops, a Harley rider, popped in for a chat and told me the driver was playing hard to get, cos she claimed she hadnt seen me therefore it wasnt her fault.
Upshot was, instead of getting a ticket for careless with an instant fine, she is now being prosecuted in court for reckless driving causing bodily harm

Glad to hear they're going to throw the book at her!!

Unfortunately...avion is right. You'll feel worse tomorrow. Ice may actually help even more than warmth. Warmth just makes inflammations more inflamed. Ice at first, then when any swelling subsides, a warm bath.

Ah, true justice. I love it when someone plays smart a$$ and gets hammered. Even if she escapes that charge, it will cost her more than the careless fine would have been. Plus the extra time it will consume - if your courts are anything like ours.
