For Sale: Custom Ducati Hypermotard from Jesse Spade!

Jesse Spade is one of the finest custom builders in the industry — and one of the friendliest to boot. Operating out of his shop in downtown Atlanta, he specializes in naked sport bikes, although we’ve seen him turn his hand to everything from a 1971 Triumph Tiger to a 1950 CJ-3A “JeepRod.”

Now Jesse is back with this custom Ducati Hypermotard 796. Introduced in late 2009, the Hypermotard 796 is 26 lighter than the 1100 model, with an 81-hp Desmo V-twin — just 9 horsepower less than the early 1100 models. Jesse had a vision for an “Urban Assault” Hypermotard that would be both functional and fun. Below, we get the full story on this custom Ducati.

Custom Ducati Hypermotard: Builder Interview

• Please tell us a bit about yourself, your history with motorcycles, and your workshop.

My name is Jesse Spade and I own a custom motorcycle shop in Atlanta, GA. I have been riding motorcycles since I was nine years old, and building custom bikes for myself since the late 90s. It’s only in the last couple years that I decided to do it professionally.

• What’s the make, model, and year of the bike?

2012 Ducati Hypermotard 796

• Why was this bike built?

I had a vision for a custom Hypermotard, so I bought one and did that.

• What was the design concept and what influenced the build?

The concept is “Urban Assault” with a splash of fun. I wanted a bike that looked custom and cool, but that was also fully functional and fun to ride. It’s both.

• What custom work was done to the bike?

Most of the work on this bike is trim and finishes, but it also got custom exhaust and a modified and powder coated subframe.

  • Powder coated wheels
  • New TKC 80 tires
  • New brake rotors front and rear
  • New LED headlight
  • 3M vinyl wrap
  • New timing belts and valve adjustment
  • Fresh Spectro full synthetic oil and K&N filter -Custom stainless steel exhaust with new muffler -Powder coated subframe
  • Fresh seat upholstery
  • Renthal streetfighter bars
  • Morimoto bar end signals

• How would you classify this bike?

Scramfightertardbler

• Was there anything done during this build that you are particularly proud of?

I’m just really happy with how it all came together. It looks very planned which is important when designing bikes.
