Wow! What a bunch of softies we all are! So much for the reputation of 'hairy *ssed, tattoo'd hooligan bikers"! I haven't been here for a while so just catching up now. Thanks so much to everyone for sharing their furball 'kids' stories. I feel for each one. We still have the 2 labradors - one is just a nutcase and the other is a real protector. They're the two young turks but they're not Kalainey - I luv 'em anyway. They're also feeling her loss - the nutcase has been so subdued and quiet - totally out of character.

Thanks for all the wishes and sharing. :y72:

People who don't have pets can't understand our sadness and joy. Sorry you lost a "buddy". You are lucky, 20 years old is a long run with lots of memories…

I know I've been really blessed to have had Kalainey with me for 20 years and it was only in the last 6 months that she really started deteriorating. But she gave it her best right until the end.
This weekend we took our other 2 dogs in for their annual rabies shots and now my x-ridgeback is in hospital! We don't know what's wrong yet as they're doing the blood work today. I'll hear later today about our Biscuit! I really just can't face going to the vet anymore.
There's been an outbreaks of billiary (tick bite fever) in Johannesburg - we've never taken her to the bush so it's really strange that in a big urban environment, we're battling billiary. Earlier this year, our little shi'tzu, MooShoo died of billiary. I really can't handle loosing another animal. So I'm just hoping and praying for the best.

Please keep us updated, Gromit; that is an awful thing to be facing - again and so soon. Our prayers are with you and with Biscuit.

Mae Lyne and I had to put down our three dogs over a three year period. First was her Fisher, a lovable mongrel who had cancer. Next was my Rottie, Dakota; again cancer. And last was her American Eskimo, Coque, who simply had too many old age infirmities. Neither of us are ready for another dog as losing these was so hard.

In retrospect, the timing was for the best. All three dogs loved the preserve and the fact that they could roam. None of them would have been happy here in confines of the suburban environment. Heck, we don't like it either!.

On a side note.....

My Daughter Keelan will be graduating in December and has gotten her Internship at the Animal Hospital that she was hoping would accept her.

They deal with all animals, but they also specialize in exotic animals. The head Veterinarian there has a radio show on the weekends and he's also the Vet for a local Zoo called Living Treasures Animal Park.

The name of the place she got her Internship is Animal General located in Cranberry, Pennsylvania (a close suburb of Pittsburgh).

I don't know how many of you are familiar with what you do with a horse that's collic...but it's no picnic!

You have to stick your arm up their butt and sometimes use a garden hose to flush them out.

She's had to do that here at home before.

Just wait until she's got to do that with an elephant or something!!

WOOHOO! My Biscuit is FINE!!! She had a type of tick bite fever which is a bit more difficult to treat than the regular one we get here but our vet did the bloods etc and picked it early. So lots of medication for a month and she'll be fine. She's already looking loads better and is back up to her normal mischief (sneaking treats from me under the table but I'm not supposed to do that). She's also starting to gain a bit weight too. Eyes are bright and she's eating again.........

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for all your wishes and prayers................
A very happy Gromit!
