As some of you know, we heat with wood using a wood burning cook stove and a fireplace even thogh we have central heat. Our central heat is a heat pump which works well but runs up the electric bill I save about 120 USD a month burning wood which I get for free. I have been splitting about half of the wood we burn by hand - a wedge and a sledge. The other half of the supply I split using a rented power splitter. I got tired of renting a splitter and splitting by hand, so I treated myself to a brand new hydraulic splitter, gasoline/petrol powered.
My old splitter
Vertical position for splitting large, heavy logs.
Hirizontal position for splitting smaller, lighter logs.
