Some years back, my son-in-law gave me a book on motorcycle safety written by, of all people, Sonny Barger, of the Hell's Angels. Actually, it was well written and very informative and one thing that really stuck in my head was his insistence of checking tire pressures before EVERY ride, no matter how short it may be. This is something that I have tried to adhere to religiously and have been called "an old fussbudget" by one of my friends for doing so. Well, yesterday morning I did my usual routine and found my front tire down about 4 psi from the day before; not sure if I'd seated the electronic gauge properly, I took another reading..........now down 8 psi!! One more time and it was down another 4 or 5 psi, making me think that the gauge was going bad, so I checked the rear tire.........right up to proper pressure! By the time I'd done another couple of checks (I know, I know, why keep doing it? Because I had 2 air compressors with me) the tire was flat. The only thing that came to mind was to check the valve stem core, which was about 1 1/4 turns loose (always have one of those valve stem tools with me); tightening it up saw the tire holding pressure 2 hours later, so I guess that was it. If I hadn't, I may well have, at best, ended up sitting by the side of the road. I've got to call my friend and let him know that being a "fussbudget" ain't all bad. So people..........CHECK THOSE PRESSURES!!
As well as being a "fussbudget", the "village idiot" is only crazy....not stupid: Jim
