Hey guys,

Has anybody dealt with the blue pipe (Header) syndrome? I only have it on the left side anybody know why? Ok, next thing is can you get that off of there? I have heard of scrubbing bubbles cleaner will work but don't know about that. I have high polished steel. I took the air injection out of there because I did a bit of research and they say thats what causes the problem.

Cheers guys ride safe

Well I believe that the AI does add to this and I have also removed my one. I have hardly any blue on my headers. I find it strange that only your one side is going blue. I really don’t think that you will be able to get rid of this very easily as I have never heard of anyone managing to do this.

i too have removed my AI and also still have some blueing, more on the left and no I dont know why.
I have managed to reduce the amount by using stainless pot cleaners ( white powder type ),
but be sure to remove the remains of this before firing up the bike.
The blueing however will return over time.
Steve, if you have removed your AI,and are running after market pipes I would reccomend increasing your pilot jets from the standard 42s to 45s.You dont have to shop around for Triumph ones, Harley ones are the same .

Small and large amounts of money can be posted to me for this advice via Dave.

Blue headers are a Triumph parallel twin tradition. Unless your headers are double walled headers, they will blue. Removing the AI reduces the bluing significantly. One side does usually blue a little mor and a little more quickly than the other. It simply means one cylinder is running a tda leaner than the other and thus is a little hotter.

Of course you can go through the cermaic coating thing as kevin mentioned. Although I have a classic bike, I don't care if the headers are blue. They were blue when I rode now calssics Triumphs in the 60's. Back then the blue headers were a badge of honor; it showed you had been running the bike!

Cheers guys,

Devo I am running 140 main 42 pilot set up, I just thought it bloody wierd that it was one sided also. I kind of like it if it were on both sides.

Carl, Badge of Honor mate I like it.........

If I do find something I will let ya know......Hey hang on, How can I get the same colour on the other side....hahaha I only have half a badge.

Cheers

Steve

Penny says Sugarman has a blue head :y114:

This can be easily resolved by releasing the grip slightly:y26:

I really like the blueing on pipes. I think it adds character.
Wish mine would blue. I have to settle for a goldish colour.

Ask Lioness, she will help getting your pipes blue

bearing in mind that i'm an ol squid

who's only experienced the older 650's

i'd still like to throw in my two cents.

(now provably 200 cents at the current going rate)

the blue is from a lean cylinder, best is light gold.

Simichrome Polish takes it off nicely with a little elbowgrease.

when it turns black the nickle is burnt. rechome then required.

it's a hole in piston warning especially on one side only. (partial jet blockage?)

Hey mate,

I have changed the jets when I changed the pipes. But they were already Blue then. Not got any worse though. Thanks for the site for the cleaner.

Cheers :y18:

It must be an age thing but same as Carl we saw blue headers as a badge of honour, made everyone think you rode your bike hard :y115:

heh! :y18:

backatcha! a little hard felt wheel at low speed in a drill speeds it up quite a bit.

be generous with the polish, medium pressure,

polishes superbly, wipe off frequently

and reapply, nice trick eh?

the blue is right on the edge of lean,

when you really start pushing em, anything cutting loose

like a manifold gasket or the balance tube leaking will eat stuff.

i figger their tuned perfect when normal runing does'nt change em at all.

then when they're pushed hard, that gold color shows up.

my engines lasted longer that way.

a little 'Murphy" margin eh?

best tuning trick for a performance engine is a "Plug chop"

you want chocolate brown after running a slight grade.

black is too rich, grey to white is getting to the lean side.

ambient air temp makes a difference too. plug chops

on a screaming hot day the best way to go.

light chocolate brown then is perfect.

darker brown in the winter.

Preach on, Brother!!! Tell it all!!!!! AMEN!!!! :y115: :y115:

Don't worry about things you can't control.

Mine are blue and gold so I have it all. Once it is blue or gold it cannot be removed. I know because I have tried everything possible, and nothing removes it. To me it is a status symbol.
