Johannesburg - A 37-year-old man was arrested for driving over the speed limit on the N1 near Nasrec, south of Johannesburg on Sunday, metro police said.

Spokesperson Wayne Minnaar said the Alberton man was a caught doing 245km/h or 152 mile/hour (mph)

He claimed that he'd been on his way home after a "breakfast run".

"He was arrested for reckless and negligent driving," Minnaar said.

He would face an additional charge for not displaying the number plate on the motorbike.

Minnaar said the man was due to appear in the Roodepoort Magistrate's court on Monday.

Just looking at this and this would be.

245 kilometer/hour = 68.055 555 556 meter/second
245 kilometer/hour = 223.279 381 75 foot/second

You have no chance of even reacting if something come out in front of you, wow some people :y7:

Check out your reaction time here

Maybe one of you engineer types may be able to let us know more or less how far the average person would have traveled before they did anything as that would be interesting to know

Yep, no chance in hell at that speed.
Confession: A few years ago I was out on my H***a 900 and wacked the throttle up to 200 kph for just a second.
It was a straight road and the conditions were good so I let loose.
Believe me, it was both a thrill and scary and I have no plans to do it again. I couldn't believe how quickly the bike could reach those speeds. It was a bit terrifying so I quickly backed off.
I like riding in a spirited manner, but I know my limits and use common sense - most of the time :y2:

DaveM, can we please knock off a few decimals here :y16:? The average human reaction time is, apparently 215ms = 0.215 second. But that's misleading- that's the time to tap a key on a keyboard; slamming on the brakes or initiating a steering manoever would take additional time over and above this basic reaction time.

Anyway, 215ms would equate to 14.6m or 48 ft covered at 245 kph, before anything happens.

There is a rumour that this speed was recorded in 2008 by a forum member :y13: on a Sprint ST. That's 164 mph indicated.

I seem to remember that I had a tankbag on at the time & couldn't get my head down behind the screen properly....

Modern bikes are just so fast it's,for me anyway, scary. My 1200 Kawasaki is by no means the quickest thing around, but you can be tootling along at a nice, legal 120k and you tweak the throttle to overtake.Next thing you're going past 160,another couple of seconds it's 200 and still pulling like a loco,it's just too easy.
We used to have to put in some effort to 'pull a ton'.

What Doug says is all too true. Bikes today are wicked fast and very stable so the temptation is always there.
It's no wonder the young riders full of testosterone can't resist and get into trouble.
As I mentioned, I had my speed thrill for a couple of seconds and that's the end of that.
Senior citizens shouldn't be doing crazy stunts like that :y2:

Never been that fast in my life on the road :y13: :y10:

The fasted I have been is on a highway 140 mph / 225 kph in my Porsche. I don't care to do that on two wheels.

THAT is moving on!

I've done the ton+ on each of my bikes. I've done it and as far as I'm concerned I don't need to do it again on the street.

+1 Ditto.

DAVEB you beat me by 3mph ive done 161mph on a old unitrak gpz1100 which was tuned to the nines :y15: but i do remember that bike had a wicked tank slap at 102mph and would only fade away with more throtle, and would stop at 118mph !
i would litraly slap the tank each side , very quickly then slowly to a stop ! i got used to it after a while but the first couple of times i nearly sh*t my pants :y2:

Jeepers shanered6, that sounds absolutely terrifying :y13:! When I cracked the 260 mark t'was on a Sunday ride with avion on his Speed Triple and there was no other traffic. He recorded 260.0 kph on his unfaired bike. How impressive is that?

I now ride a Tiger 1050, at much more modest speeds.
