When I was around 18 it was a common thing to be asked for your ID to verify your age. We have movies that had a 18 or 21 year old restriction and also you had to be 18 to drink in the pubs. The strange thing about the movie age restriction was most of us leaving school had to join up for Military service for two years. At that time we were fighting our bush wars and at the age of 18 you had to do and see things that no young person should see. Anyway you would come home on leave and then you could not see a movie with age restriction of 21 as it might be bad for you ROTFL

So anyway the point of this post is I had never had to show my ID to verify my age until the other day. I had to purchase ink for my printer so I went to the big retail outlet Makro, our version of Walmark but you don't have to dress funny to go to our one. The ink was over R2000 SA and that is steep. So the guy serving me I suppose he was in his 40's said pity you not a pensioner as they get a nice discount depending on the item, the lowest being 10%. So I asked him how do I get a card and he tells me I cannot as you have to be 60 or over to be a pensioner. So I tell him well that is me and he says impossible I am only around 50. So in the end I had to show him my drivers license to verify my age . I don't know what felt better getting the discount or someone thinking I was around 50 BGRIN

ROTFL great story! Nice compliment - and also a discount BGRIN TUP TUP

That movie restriction for a combat veteran sure seems silly considering what that person has already gone through.

When I was 16 I still looked like I was 12 and couldn't wait to be 21 and legal age. When I was 21 I was still being asked for ID. I resented it back then but now, not so much.
Nobody believes I'm as old as I am, but I'll take it while it lasts, so enjoy it while it lasts Dave BGRIN

I've got a local fast-food place I like to eat breakfast. To the older staff (30 yr olds) I must look old enough for the senior discount when I wear one of my jackets. To the younger staff I don't look old enough and have to ask for the discount if I want it.

Ye its funny how different age groups view you when your getting a tad longer in the tooth ! ... well thats if you have any teeth left ? :y23:

I have found that most placers that offer senior and/or military discounts rarely ask you; you have to ask them.
True, you have to ask but there are a couple or four around here that doesn't make you ask and a couple more where some of the staff does wait for you to ask, they apply the discount anyway.
