I arrived home last night after a fantastic ride through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. I thought the Andes Mountains were spectacular, but they don't compare to our Rockies.
I'm delighted to say that I handed over the keys with not a scratch on me or the BMW GS650 :ya2:
We flew into Vancouver and arrived late in the day. The tour company picked us up at 12:00 noon the next day so we didn't see much of Vancouver. If I had it to do over again I would have gone 2-3 days earlier. The tour started in Whistler home of the 2010 Olympics, which is less than two hours from Vancouver.
We had rain for half a day on day 1 of the tour and half a day on the last day with thunder and lightning all around us, but not that close. Otherwise, the weather was perfect. On one run over a mountain pass the LCD screen on the BMW registered 4C (39F) :oh:
I had purchased a Firstgear Kathmandu jacket just for the tour and I'm happy to report that it's waterproof as was advertised. It certainly got well tested on those two days!
We saw elk, bears, bears with cubs, mountain goats, deer and prairie dogs in Alberta. The tour ended in Calgary, Alberta just as the annual Calgary stampede was starting. Calgary was a madhouse and we were happy to leave.
Rocky Mountain Motorcycle Holiday tours is a fantastic company who cater to your every need. We stayed in some beautiful hotels and lodges and ate like kings. I will recommend this company to anyone who will listen.
I took 516 pictures so be prepared to be bored :ya2:
I'll post them a couple at a time with some commentary as soon as I get them sorted out.

Hi, Rocky; welcome home. I am so glad you had a good, enjoyable trip - and uneventful! Congrats on the unscratched BMW GS650! :y114: I would love to make that trip. I did get to ride in the Cascades and up toward Vancouver. It is, indeed, lovely country - a whole lot greener than the Andes.

Looking forward to seeing your "boring' photos. Bring 'em on!

Thanks guys!
For anyone who might be intersted in this tour company, here is the link http://rockymtnmoto.com/
They have lots of bikes to choose from so I chose the BMW GS which I what I rode in South America. Their machines are new and in top condition. There is nothing second rate about this company.
The company owner is 43 and his employees (guides) are the same age or younger. They love what they do and it shows. They take very good care of you and were always asking if there was anything else they could do for you.
There were two couples from the UK, two Canadians (buddy Don and I) and three American couples. A couple of the ladies rode in the chase truck and some rode pillion. One UK lady rode a bike.
Everyone was super friendly and enjoyed a good laugh. The people from the UK couldn't get over how big Canada is :ya2:
I'll go through my pics and pick our some of the best ones for posting.

I finished posting a cross section of the photos I took in the Rocky Mountains in the "travels" section.
I'm in the process of writing the story of the trip and will post that later.
BTW, I forgot to mention that my steel shoulder set off the scanner alarms in the airports. I warned the screeners ahead of time, but I was still given a thorough "body wanding" with a hand held scanner before I was allowed to proceed.
I hadn't flown since the surgery in 2008 and was wondering if it would trip airport alarms. Now I know :ya2:
