A very happy Australia day to all our Australian members and congratulation on finally getting electricity next year TUP

PS sorry this is a bit late but we are a bit backward in Darkest Africa so it took them a bit long to beat the message out on the drums BGRIN

I just found some cool stuff on Australia day

The tradition of having Australia Day as a national holiday on 26 January is a recent one. Not until 1935 did all the Australian states and territories use that name to mark that date. Not until 1994 did they begin to celebrate Australia Day consistently as a public holiday on that date.

What drew Australians together in this way? Did Australia Day become a day for all Australians to enjoy?

Celebrating Australia: A History of Australia Day is an essay commissioned by the National Australia Day Council. Completed in 2007, it was researched and written by historian Dr Elizabeth Kwan. Explore its sections below or download it as a PDF at the bottom of the page.

Thanks, the extended family had a BBQ and not at my place :y2:.
Photo is my wife Sharron and my oldest granddaughter. The silly head things have flashing LED's, they think it creates a holiday mood.
I did very well by only having 1 bottle of cider, 1 bottle of beer and 1 large glass of red wine to wash down the tiger prawns, BBQ and pavlova.
I still played it safe and got Sharron to drive home, you never know with RBT's and double demerit points for the holiday.

Sounds like you had a great day, good on not driving you just cannot take that chance TUP Do you guys call it a BBQ your side or do you have another name for it as we do

If we cook outdoors on a grill or hotplate we do call it a [FONT=&quot]barbecue usually written as BBQ. With a bit of a think I probably could come up with other names for the same process, what do you call it?

Edit, not sure what happened to the font in this post but I'm too slack to change it.:y8:

It's 9.15 PM, just got dark and I can hear fireworks going off in the neighborhood.
It's a good day and usually full of open friendliness.
We don't fly flags much but on 26th Jan you sure see lots all over, I even saw a police car (highway patrol) with a small one on the aerial.

What as little as 95% I thought you had then all your side by now BGRIN

Dave, I don't know if I've related this story before but a mate of mine from SA with Polish parents applied for a new job in Joburg, when asked if he was by-lingual he said yes and didn't tell a lie, he spoke English and Polish. He got away with it.
