My brother-in-law picked up a 2001 Speed Triple. He and my brother drove 18 hours round trip to get it. I had my first ride on it today and it is a really nice bike.

It took a bit of work though. It had a salvaged/repaired title. We were told that a nephew tipped the bike over and the frame cracked where the rear set bolts on. So it was an instant total by the insurance company. The owner had it repaired and re-titled. But today I found out that it has a bent front wheel. All of a sudden I think it was in a bit more of an accident then a low speed tip over.

I provided a new brake lever and a brake line that goes between the two front calipers. The original brake line had a kink in it :silent:

I think the forks and shock should get re-built and he should replace the front wheel. The bike was also re-painted and it needs new decals.

But after that I think it is a really good bike.

There is nothing wrong with a salvaged bike if the frame is true. I would definitely check the front end and rebuild the shocks. That bent wheel indicates that he hit something and hard enough to bend the wheel and crack the frame. A bent wheel WHEEL affect the handling.

This is his second bike. He got it for a decent price. I would have paid more if it wasn't for the salvaged part...

I'll keep pressing him to have the wheel replaced.
