Barely one decade after all their industry was destroyed to the ground and the vast majority of experts dead or emigrated to the USA and URSS, Germany motor industry woke up and - like Phoenix - rose from the ashes to become the very BEST in the world in less than 30 years.
Very early “the writing was on the wall†:y26:

1948 – Porsche 356

1952 – Mercedes 300SL

1956 – BMW 507

When I'm old have a "blue rinse" I'll buy a Merc. I also think that Mercs have lost their lustre/luster her in SA. Just too many of them on the road.
Until then I'll dream about my Morgan. :y72:
The German motor industry is dominant but there's still something heavy and utilitarian about the appearance of most of the Mercs.
Porsche - different story.
Audi - stunning.
BMW's - I guess it's that attitude of Beemer drivers here in SA that just puts me off. :oh:
You said in SA, Gromit??? :y26:
What about WORLDWIDE!!!??? :y41:

I have always liked German engineered machinery there just seems to be a mark of quality about it. Love the 1956 – BMW 507, funny as I am not really a big BMW fan when it comes to the new models.

Still unbelievable that BMW that in 1957 was producing under licence the Isetta 250 nowadays owns Rolls Royce Motor Cars.

And that Volkswagen that in 1946 was producing the Beetle is now the owner of Bentley Motors Limited

It is not what one could call a "looker" but is reliable and - most important of all - has space enough to carry my motorbike parts! :y28:

I loved my Porsche. It was a well built, well designed car and it could certainly corner.
Which type did you have, Carl? :y28:

...I really liked the 944 more than the 911.  The balance of that car was perfect.
Nice car indeed! :y18:
