And a grand day it was for a ride.

Yesterday, myself and four other retired old farts went, for a 200 km (120 miles) ride. It was a warm day for a change and I wanted to test the endurance of my shoulder and hand. I'm pleased to say that, other than normal muscle soreness from not riding for 10 months, everything performed beautifully.
The temperature is even warmer today so we're taking off again in a few minutes. Happy days are here again :y115:
It's still early spring with no grass or leaves on the trees yet so the countryside looks pretty bleak, but I'm back on the road and loving it!

Good going Rocky. This old fart did his first PGR ride last friday. It was the good kind, to welcome home one of our heros. It started out raining, but later turned out to be a good day.

Yes Dave, it's wonderful to feel fit and strong again.
We went out again on Saturday and rode another 150 km and again Sunday afternoon. I wanted to get in as much riding as I could during the mild spell we had to test my stamina. I'm very pleased with my strength and endurance and now I know I'm up to long rides.
I also wanted to test my body for any restrictions in movement while riding (getting on and off, turning, etc.) and there are none.
The old bag of bones is working just fine :ya2:

Been so busy at work that I feel lucky when I get to take my commute to the office by bike - about 30 miles round trip. Missed Daytona Bike week and Leesburg bike fest, but hey, in this economy, who doesn't put work first.

:y23: yeah....well....I guess so, Dave
I certainly don't feel (or act) my age.
Guys, I'm telling you, to have your health and to be able to enjoy your life at over 70 is a blessing and better than all the gold in the world.
Of course it's nice to have a bit of that gold too :ya2:

I was out on the old Triumph today by myself, but rode only about 40 miles. I stopped for a coffee and a donut and watched passersby admire the old girl.
Most of the satisfaction of owning it is in the riding, but also part of it is in seeing people react to how good the old girl looks.
Not to be blowing my own horn, but there aren't many around here that look that good and she gets a lot of attention.

Well Rocky, you and the bike both deserve the attention. I am less than three years away from seventy and almost ended up in the ground last year. I also had two younger brothers die on me in the last two years. It sure put a new slant on what is important to me. It is great to be around to ride and enjoy life. I love looking at and riding my speedy and don't care what others think or say. But, I still get a lot of nice comments about the bike. I also enjoy shooting my guns. Oh am I allowed to say than anymore?

Dave :y72:

Good for you Simmer! Keep on truckin' :y115:
I'm a target shooter too and have a room full of trophies to show for it from over 35 years of competition - including a gold medal from the 1981 national championships. At age 50 I was the provincial combat pistol champion.
Since I got back into motorcycles in 1992 I've backed off on shooting quite a bit as my new hobby and a different group of friends took over.

Rocky it's great to know you here. Your Canadian brothers have shown me a thing or two about shooting for years with rifles. Many of them originally came from Switzerland. I love the shooting sports. I also have seen some recent videos of your long range snipers doing work in Afghanistan. They sure don't get the credit due them. I think I love riding my bike in the same way. You are a good man Rocky.

Dave :y115:

Good man Rocky - glad to hear the Run went well, hope you and the lads get out again!

I went off to the first road race of the season last saturday, rode a total of 210 miles, but this is what I faced 80 miles from home :oh:
Thankfully it was just a local shower and soon dried up a few miles down the road and I was dry by the time I got back....and they say it never rains in the Emerald Isle?? :ya2:
