A few days ago, we received word that BSA had officially revealed their all-new Gold Star 650 ahead of schedule. Set to grace the stage of Motorcycle Live this week, the pre-debut was officially presented to the masses this past Friday – and she’s a classic beauty.

According to NewAtlas, the 2022 Gold Star 650 will run somewhere around 213 kg (470 lb) and “couples traditional looks with contemporary technology, running on a single-cylinder 652-cc engine that was developed by BSA with the assistance of the Austrian Technical University of Graz, producing 45 hp and 55 Nm (40.6 lb-ft) via a slipper clutch and a five-speed gearbox.”

We’re also told that the machine will feature Brembo brakes, Continental’s dual-channel ABS, and runs on a steel double-cradle frame with 18-inch spoked wheels featuring Pirelli Phantom Sportscomp rubbers.

Other than that, the 2022 Gold Star 650 keeps things sweet and simple when it comes to electronics – apart from the ABS, an engine immobilizer system, and a handlebar-mounted USB socket, the bike runs free and clean with an LCD screen squeezed between two “pods with needles rotating clockwise,” similar to the original beastie.

Expect the Gold Star to be capable of the European A2 driving license class, with four color schemes – Insignia Red, Dawn Silver, Midnight Black, and Highland Green (my favorite).

Obviously lots of modern features but they’ve captured the lines really well, a couple of people I know have seen it in the flesh and say it looks very well made. I’ve also heard rumours that cam, ignition and a few tweeks can take the motor from the stock 45bhp to around 61bhp, let’s hope they’re right.

God its beautiful! ----even better than the original, not so 'clumpy' at the rear. BSA always caught my young imagination----who wouldn't want a 'road rocket ' or a rocket goldstar however the engines were actually a bit down on power compared with Norton/triumph ---Now I realise they are going for A2 licence holders so its power really is a bitty -----disappointing they say 'it will run at a ton' fine but that's not really the main attraction for bikers (well I don't think) its how rapid it is------can you win the traffic lights gran prix? will it take you away from the 4 wheeled herds on the open road ? I have always had a soft spot for singles (something about the frequency of combustion) BUT since serious road going modern 650 singles are produced at 70 HP -----surely something in the 60s is not too much to ask? The all-new Gold Star 650 from BSA and would certainly give me ource: NewAtlas

don't know if I am duplicating this----first reply seemed to 'vanish' ----anyway its a beautiful bike ! I always had a soft spot for singles ---something about the frequency of combustion and the vibes it provides. i remember the originals when I was a lad----caught the imagination---who wouldn't want a BSA Road rocket --or a rocket gold star! thing is of course they were in reality a tad 'clumpy' and slower than the Norton/triumphs of the day. not sure about those tyres though ---had pirrelli phantoms on the T120 from new----they were a disaster in the wet and wanted to follow road imperfections --got rid of them soon as I could. They say it will sit at 100 obviously trading on the ton-up tradition, but 45 HP will be iffy on the traffic lights gran-prix or trying to make distance between the 4 wheel herd. When you consider that the more modern 650ish single serious road bikes are making 70 odd HP -----60 odd does not seem too much to ask !. From experience with my buddies I know that something between high 50s and low 60s HP for the road is enough providing the bike ain't too heavy . (had a honda 500cb at 57hp, worked hard but kept up, the america 900 was 61 but just too heavy and it was a struggle). Nevertheless if it goes to next year it may well be 'uprated' and I could well be tempted , might give up my very competent but bland BMW800GT.
