This maybe a silly if not a stupid question, but after the new sprag clutch is installed and the engine put back together, is there a way of starting the engine before you struggle to put it back into the frame? All one wants to do is light up the starter to see if the sprag clutch engages and it appears everything was re-assembled properly!

You can check the starter is engaging but you will need to strap the engine down tight to something so it cant move then leave the spark plugs out , you can then use a battery and some leads to attach to the starter and see if the starter turns it over .
Bare in mind that once the you have connected your leads you may have to cross the starter terminals with a screw driver or something similar , as the starter selaniod usually needs a separate power source to activate it .

Thought I should respond to my question. After I reinstalled the engine, put everything back on except the mufflers. Word of caution before you turn over the engine. Turn the key on, watch the oil pressure light and once it turns off, you can then turn the engine over. Mine took several turns and fired up! Without mufflers, was it loud, which was music to deaf ears.
