When Lee Marvin took the role of Chino, the leader of a rival bike gang in the 1953 Brando movie, The Wild One, he didn't know how to ride a motorcycle.
He knew that Brando rode motorcycles well from his days as an actor in New York, and didn't want to be upstaged or bettered by Brando. He knew he couldn't "fake it" so he had to learn to ride. He didn't do that much riding in the movie, but rode well and enjoyed riding so much he later joined his friend, actor Keenan Wynn, on 200cc Triumph bikes and they rode off-road together many times and even entered off-road competitions.
