I just returned from spending Monday, Tuesday, and part of today helping a long time lady friend with her 300 acre acre beef cattle ranch - which she has run by herself for the past 17 years. For her protection (seriously), she will remain anonymous. I have known this lady since she was nine years old. She lived with my mom's cousin and her family.

I rode the Tiger and it was a 326 mile (525 kilometers) round trip, Her ranch is about three miles off of the paved road.

I took these photos leaving the ranch. Her property line is along the right side of the road in the first pic. The road is sand and was fairly hard packed due to recent rains.

Ranch house. Notice the well groomed lawn (ahem). :y2:

Ranch road through the middle of the ranch. Good Tiger riding.

Looking east from the ranch house to the east pasture. The trees are pecan trees are are about ready to drop the pecans.

Equipment barn. Her big John Deere, hay cutters, mowers and hay balers are stored there.

She was selling off some older equipment. Here is the loaded equipment.

These are the guys buying the old equipment. The one on the right is a neighbor. It was a HOT humid day ans we were all wringing wet with sweat.

I worked hard and it felt good to be outdoors working. I had no trouble sleeping. I hated to come back to the Orlando metro area.

Nice report, Carl. Glad to see you out and about. It's so important (and often therapeutic) to have friends.

Stay busy - we'll get together soon. Biketoberfest in 2 weeks.

You are so right about friends. I would not make it through this without them. I look forward to seeing you in Daytona.

real nice countryside what a great place to live and ride :y6:

Thanks Shane; it is beautiful country side with lots of good riding. Unfortunately, I get little time to ride and explore; but I do squeeze some in. :y2:

Running a place that big certainly is a lot of work.
Good on ya for being a good friend.

It is indeed a lot of work and constant work. That is why I am trying to give her a break. She is a very sweet lady and a I am honored to be her friend.

Ranch looks beautiful, especially the manicured lawn! Nice going Carl - thanks for sharing!

Thanks, Gromit; it is beautiful and she keeps the whole spread immaculate. Her lawn will probably only need to be mowed one more time before winter as the the days are getting shorter and the temps will soon be dropping.

I grew up on a very large farm and I remember driving teams of horses when I was very young. I drove tractors and farm machinery as soon as I could reach the pedals and controls.
That's just the way life was and you didn't think about that fact that you were only a kid. All the farm kids did the same thing.
We moved to the city when I was 13 and looking back that was the best thing that ever happened to us.
When I found out about another type of life I quickly forgot about living and working on a farm.

I have never quit loving the farm/ranch life. I am an outdoors person. City life stifles me - sort of like driving or riding in a cage. BGRIN I would be content to live out my remaining days on a farm/ranch or in the woods.

+1 on that Carl.
The only problem that I'd have is I love the coast and rural land on the coast is big $$$.

Cool stuff carl, there is even a hill on her property that barn area was a good 6 feet higher than the surrounding terrain...LOL

Mae Lyne loved the coast. When we lived on the preserve, we had the best of both worlds. We had 5000 acres of natural land - woods, swamps, marsh, scrub, etc and we lived right on the estuary. We could hear the surf breaking on the barrier island. You are right, rural acreage along the coast is VERY pricey.

BGRIN Actually her property is rolling; you can't really tell it in the photos. She has 30 - 40 foot changes in elevation. Her highest point is the second highest in the county. I will try to take a photo from the highest point next week.
